Yes, you need something to tap into the boost source.

How come the podi boost tap is $35.00 on your site and $30.00 on the podi website?
Also wondering why the write ups do not show the boost tap being used with the 1.8T? Is the t fitting not good enough?
Podi's site lists the boost tap is used for the following engines:
2010+ Audi A5 TSI

2009+ Audi A4 TSI

2006+ VW Jetta/GTI 2.0T FSI & TSI

2005+ VW Passat 2.0T FSI & TSI

The Podi gauge comes with a T fitting, it's not a boost tap. Common spot to put the T fitting is the vacuum line from the intake manifold to the fuel pressure regulator. You need nothing special for this, boost tap is only for the FSI/TSI.
