Test Pipe p0420 fix?

Back in the day when I trolled the BMW world, the guys who had headers would build a small box with two o2 bungs to thread the rear o2 sensors into and this fresh air box would keep the computer happy and believing the car still had a NOx scrubbing cat. Is there any reason this wouldn't work on my b6?

isnt the point to get it to read a LOWER value than it would without a cat? That would be like reading no value at all

People report the j pipes being hit or miss. I want a solution that works. Has anyone any real experience with the mini cat plugs? (or link to thread)

Interesting....Have you checked it lately? I'm kinda surprised that the tape hasn't melted. The O2 sensor heaters heat to over 600°f. I wouldn't think wrapping the sensor with a flammable material would be the best way to handle it.

Pretty sure the fresh air box would cause some kind of code like: "B1 S2 : No Activity" or "Bank1: Lambda Correction Behind Catalyst: Control Limit Reached" or some such. These newer ECU's have gotten seriously picky about what they want to see the o2 sensors do. Sitting in a constant fresh air supply probably isn't conducive to that.

Personally, I think somebody needs to pull the trigger and try out one of these "cats on a stick" to see if they actually work.

Oh haha I just replaced that spot with an AFR gauge. So my O2 is just hanging in my engine bay

my only thought on that is what does the O2 sensor read? well oxygen obviously. but is it looking for just a concentration drop due to burn or air flow sort of like MAF? if its just flow, in not sure why we would need a cat plug, just the fouler/j bung trick.

but i know , those little guys are just super neato.

Unfortunately the only way to "know for sure" is to buy it and try it.

You've seen various hit or miss results with OTHER spacers and methods.

That thread is basically 10 people trying it out, and all ending with success.

Curious enough? Order one and try it. Start a thread here, just like they did. I'll keep an eye on it and help anyone out along the way. I'm making a point to stand behind it.

Thx, perfect thread, I was about to install my testpipe on my B6 winter beater, sadly im Unitronic chipped and the soft doesnt come with a cel remover like my 2.0t. Not sure when ill order it tho, but ill post when it's done.

I'm running revo2 and apparently the p0420 is written out, but yet I still get cat codes, the Jbung did nothing except make things worse. I'm really intrigued by these mini cat's, definitely going to pick one up. Worth a try in my eyes.

this is what ill be doing on a straight test pipe. ill get the two year inspection just in case right before the install though.
