    Now that the rains have started and weekend outdoor projects are not a top priority it time for me to get the car in the garage and swap in my MFD display. Your swap looks great!

    Thanks for the kind words. It was a fun project to finish finally. I do have a few others inline for customers that I am trying to finish. One being a shift light that flashes the tach when hitting the redline thats being finalized for someone in the B5 S4 community. I am hoping I will have more time to finally get alot of things finalized for my 07k turbo swap so I will be updating that thread within the next few weeks.

    I drove it!

    My dad and I wanted a cheeseburger, so we loaded the car onto the trailer and headed down to Summit Point's Shenandoah circuit for burgers and fries... and fast cars or whatever.

    While this car currently gets is caboose waxed on a long, flowing course like Summit Point Raceway (the main course at the facility), it seems to excel on the bizarre mix of off-camber, sprinty straights, and the occasional jump. I was able to find some other drivers to hang out with until I burned the pads off of the car (they were getting low). It did a solid three sessions and may have had a fourth left in it.

    Lunch was pretty good, too. It was well worth all the effort.

    This is absolutely next level. Damned nice work!

    I've been considering a similar, but definitely not on this level, project of trying to cobble together pieces parts of my original A4 cluster with an S4 cluster I swapped in but died. I've also toyed with picking up the VFIZ from qmatis.

    Rarely had found any free time lately... especially for her. Still managed to clean & polish the exhaust tips with Autosol and detail the engine bay & wheels one last time. Since now she sits in a garage after all these years, maybe it'll be a good idea to let her 'hibernate' for a few months until the seasons change again. Whaddya say ?

    Danisson's car is like new! Nice job!

    I did brakes and installed this tow hook thingy. Sandwiched it in the trunk floor. Hopefully they are nice to it if it ever has to be used.

    Old pads shown for comparison. They were installed, like what, last month? 1.5 track days.

    Nah, don't bother man ;) I really appreciate it; but the truth is that she's not quite like that in reality. Pictures are beautiful, though she's full of dents and scratches - which I've managed to cut down with polish & wax yesterday :) - front left wing is bent upfront, as well as the right rear one. (bought her like that) Of course, I'm not bragging with those... and I'm not bragging with my car; there are many more out there far better. Even yours is far away mechanically than mine... and so on.

    I do respect everybody who takes care of these beauties since the DO deserve it ! Cheers !

    Thanks A LOT ! I must agree with you on that :) HAHA ! Well, she's my only car at the moment, and I'm even thinking when and where to drive or park so she won't get dirty, dusty, scratched or stressed by heavy traffic. (what am I kidding about... I'm even washing the rubber floor mat after every ride :) Sometimes it's like an obsession to be honest (which is not good) and when I say she'd stay for the winter basically means that I'm not driving at all :(

    Finally managed to book a shop appointment to get clutch and transmission looked at.

    It's snowing a lot here. One night of snow brings the snow above the bottom of my doors, so now I'm learning to drive in the snow. Quattro is very nice. The roads don't seem to get salted, plowed, or graveled until after my drive to work.

    I weighed it! Before taking it apart and installing a cage, the car, with my weight subtracted out and a full tank of fuel was 3,650 pounds. Now it is 3,200 on the nose. Not bad! It still stands to lose more... I won't race it with a full tank, so subtract 50 pounds. Enkei Racing makes some nice, light wheels, too, so I think another 40 can come off from there.

    Could you replace some of the glass with thin sheet metal? I'm sure some of the windows aren't actually useful for the driver.

    Lexan, actually. There is a lot that I can do there. That'll be stage 2 or 3. For now, I am happy to get it onto the track, and I am looking at a power to weight class now, which means I get to make as much power as needed to kind of overcome some of the weight. Big turbo time! I can add lightness later.

    if you’re doing power to weight I would do everything possible to cut weight first. The RPM’s you’re going to need to track a big turbo 1.8t and have it be usable is going to trash your engine faster than you can blink. and it’ll just be a lot less fun to drive

    I got the easy weight out to start. There is more to come: I still have to cut the door inner bits out, remove the bracing from the hood, and cut out all the extra wiring. It's the 80/20 rule, right? 80% of the weight came out from 20% of the effort. Now it's going to be a fight for every pound. It'll get there.

    Anyway, I want to run the engine like a mad man. 8,500 RPM would be super fun. It's a race car, it should run fast!

    Finally managed to find some time to hunt down a rattle from the back when listening to music with heavy bass.
    This was driving me nuts. But I found the problem.

    The PDC speaker securing bolts in the rear shelf were backed out, and the speaker was rattling.
    For some reason I can't upload files to the site now. But they were out like half way. Bolted back down, and the noise went away.

    I'm having an issue like this too, super annoying... but it's way too cold out to pull the door panels (where the rattling is). Glad you were able to get rid of your noise.

    Through this busy schedule of my last weeks, I still found some time to proper restore the two solenoids (cleaned, silicone treated & polished with Autosol) and their mounting plate (matte black heat resistant) under the intake manifold. Had to make the three screws myself since thread spacing is a big deal while torquing into aluminum and everything I found was either too long or too wide :)
    Also ran new silicone vacuum lines (4mm to DV, 3mm the rest - RED for N249, BLACK for the N112)

    Running the factory route now after months of having the N249 deleted ;)

    I got tired of having to re-polish my headlight covers every so often. I had planned on spraying them with a 2k clear coat, but decided to just order a new pair of covers. I'm so glad I went that route. I followed the suggestion of someone who posted earlier on this thread about cutting the existing lens covers off, instead of baking the headlights to heat and soften the adhesive.

    I used an oscillating saw to cut make a few cuts across the lens cover, then with a heatgun, I heated the adhesive while pulling the lens cover off in pieces.

    Took this opportunity to black out the chrome. Then I used a screw driver to scrape off all the old adhesive, then used a bead of rubber butyl to seal the new lenses.

    After I was all done, I applied 3m PPF Pro film over the lens covers to protect them from stone chips. I'm really happy with how it all turned out.

    I decided to try an aluminum j plug this time, hoping that if the oring leaks in the future, it will be much easier to remove the j plug. I absolutely hate how brittle the plastic j plug gets when it ages, making removal a real PITA.

    I painted. Tubes. Lots of tubes. Odd angles, difficult positions... building the cage was fun, but I am not a painter. So, most of the rest of it will be white. I'll touch up the red and blue tubes where white dripped onto them. I got a lot more done than pictured here, but I forgot to take another picture. It feels good to get paint on more of these tubes--especially bright white paint.

    I also made progress on that heater. You can see the flexible white hoses draped unceremoniously on the dash up there. They should fit onto their vents now and do their job. That was fun by comparison.

    Replaced my cam chain tensioner using this guy's least-invasive method
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFOqW0x7oiI&t=1795s
    This worked well and saved me from fooling with the timing belt, service position, etc., but he leaves out a couple important things, namely moving the combi rearward on its bolts to clear the CCT and checking the camshaft front seal position before bolting it back down.

    Being me, I wrote a procedure
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    remove spark plugs, turn engine to TDC, put spark plugs back
    remove front grille intake duct & timing belt upper cover
    clear all pipes, wires, hoses from valve cover (VC) & remove
    remove old VC gaskets
    remove intake cam position sensor
    put paint marks on timing chain pins 1 & 16, also on cam sprockets directly below marked pins
    compress tensioner using special tool 3366
    remove intake cam caps in the following order: front, 1, 5, 3; on final caps (2 & 4) loosen both together in stages, rotating between all 8 bolts at each stage, until camshaft is free
    unbolt tensioner
    back out 3 bolts securing combi valve (5mm allen) and push back combi enough to clear CCT right rear corner
    lift tensioner & intake camshaft straight up together, then unhook camshaft cog from inside chain, then lift out tensioner behind chain. Sound easy? It's not.
    check sump under tensioner for loose pieces
    remove old tensioner gasket and half moon
    clean up all gasket mating surfaces
    apply ass'y lube to cam journals & caps
    place tensioner half-moon & 2 dabs RTV at corners, then tensioner gasket on alignment pins, then THIN bead of RTV atop gasket
    lower tensioner & intake camshaft into place together by reversing above tricky maneuver for getting them out, paying close attention to timing marks, then check tensioner gasket position and camshaft front seal position, correcting both as needed
    confirm chain-camshaft timing is correct
    torque down tensioner (10 N-m; 88 in-lbs)
    re-install cam caps, reversing order of operations for removal
    release tensioner & remove special tool
    re-tighten combi valve
    button up w/ new VC gaskets
    found the cleanest driveshaft i’ve ever seen, swapped on 034’s driveshaft carrier. not pleased with it, but hopefully it solves my bearing noise. the bracket is about a whole inch taller so nearly scrapes the heat shield, and the bearing is not an OEM bearing as they advertise. whatever.
    also threw on their pcv system as my idle started getting a little shitty. we’ll see. at least I don’t have to replace the crumbling elbow every couple years now.
    oh, and I ran the cvbs video signal from my q7 reverse camera into a 2 pole switch, that when switched, switches the cvbs input line to one coming from an hdmi to cvbs converter, and sends power to it along with another usb port to power whatever media player. in tv mode, flick of a switch and the roku powers on and sends video straight to the RNSE.
    also took those spare b8.5 A5 et26 18’s laying around and had them wrapped in vredestein wintrac pro’s 245/40r18 then drove it in a snowstorm to get some park laps in.
    New windshield this week. I was a little skeptical when my trusted independent installer showed up with a TriVal, but surprisingly, there is no distortion and looks great. Not bad for $180.
    Hi there !
    Been working on her this week... Polished the fuel rail, cleaned the injector cups & intake manifold, siliconed all the plastics and fully restored the injectors. (new o-rings & filters) I also removed the headlights for a good cleaning and all-bulb replacement (went for orange W5Ws as my version of "EU-US Style" ;) and found oil dripping from the boost hose coming from the IC to MANI, because it reached above the plastic stopper. So new clamps and a good clean.
    Here are some before & after shots:
    No. I think it's just a B6 windshield. My A4 is pretty loud and is just a spare car at the moment. I don't think I'd notice the acoustic glass.
    I do have acoustic glass in my Q5 which is noticeably quieter.
    Had the transmission fluid changed, used motul gear power 75w80, definitely seems to shift smoother now. Also had the popped brake flex line changed finally, it's nice having 4 wheel braking again, and I guess functional ABS is probably good for snow/ice...
