DIY for removing trunk (interior) trim?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm going to have a stab at this tomorrow anyway, it's probably obvious when I get in there, but I can't find a DIY for removing the side trim in the trunk (to reveal the stock amp on one side and remove the "cubby" box on the other).

I have 3 days off work to attempt to install my new stereo. My first attempt at this kind of thing. I got most of the door sill trim off this evening, and have DIYs for most of the other stuff I expect to have to do. I may take the front seats out to get the wires in there nicely. I'm a bit worried about drilling holes to get the 2 pairs of speaker cable into the doors for the components, as well as mounting the tweeters if they aren't a nice fit.

Gonna be a long few days, I hope it's worth it!

    FYI I will be installing:
    JL Audio HD900/5
Boston Acoustics Pro60SE components in the front
Boston Acoustics SR60 components in rear
    Pioneer AVIC-Z130BT
Alpine SWX-1043D 10" X-type sub in Audio Integrations B7 enclosure (arriving Tuesday)

I'm shitting myself already, I'm not sure 3 days will be enough.

    Cheers

This helped me http://www.a4mods.com/index.php?page...tml&category=4 scroll halfway down.

Edit: Have you ran your power wire from the battery to inside the cabin?

Perfect. Thanks for that. Looks simple once I have the seats out.

Nope I haven't installed anything yet. I have an amp installation kit, I'm hoping to find a way through without drilling a hole in the firewall though I bought some grommets just in case. I'm still unsure about how to mount the amp, I'm going to go to my local installer tomorrow and see what they. say and if they can mount it nicely there and then for not too much I'll let them do that. I was thinking of getting it mounted behind the little door if i take the cubby box out, but am not sure exactly what i would mount it to. The amp is about the size of letter paper a couple of inches thick. From looking at other peoples installs they usually bring the power through the firewall on the passenger side, I'm not sure if that would require more than the 17ft of power cable I have..

Running the power wire is a b&@$*. At least it was for me. I installed my Fosgate PBR300X4 underneath my Pioneer 930bt.

No problem. If I had to choose again I would have paid the installer the $100 he wanted to install my amp. The 17' should be enough (depends on mounting location). Good luck with the project.

I got the power run today down through that nipple, down the center console and into the trunk. Wasn't quite as bad as I was expecting.

    Next challenge: The speaker wiring..

How do I open those connectors at the doors? I pushed one of them inside the car and I can't even get it to "click" back into the hole?! I think I'm just gonna drill a hole above and below the connector hole. Looks like there's a little bit of room to stay inside the rubber sheath. Having problems with that connector though, any advice?

    Cheers

Are you referring to the connector behind the B-pillar?

Yeah one at the front and one for the passenger door that passes cable out of the vehicle. I can get two runs down the gap at the side of the connector, gonna wrap the fuck out of that portion of the cable with electrical tape to stop any potential rubbing. A job for tomorrow. MY crutchfield speaker adapters fit in the front door but the Pro60 SEs are too large for the gap (6 3/4"). They might work on the passenger doors I'll find out tomorrow. Dremel at the ready to make mounts for the front!

Yeah thats what i'm going to use for the brackets, i'm hoping I can jsut use these crutchfield brackets in the back. He put his cables down the gap too. I'm guessing the cable doesn't actually move much there so should be ok. Cheers for the heads-up :)
