Can you use an adapter to plug in any smartphone or mp3 onto the iPod cable

I just purchased a 2009 Audi A4 with the Audi Symphony system. It already has the iPod cable. I was wondering if I could plug onto the existing cable, a 3.5mm headphone jack with a iPod adapter. Has any one tried this and been successful.

I am looking to play MP3s and/or Pandora via Audi MMI system.

I am also looking at the Audi Bluetooth adapter as another option ...

BT for MY 2012 is pretty sweet on the other models , seemless for sure . unfortunately the cable I mentioned
is the only solution for us and you should also get some kind of extender unless you plan on reaching into the
    glove box every time .

I just bought an old 60gb classic for cheap that I leave in the glovebox, way better than reaching down there with your phone every time.

Thanks guys. I found this one: http://www.amazon.com/Grom-Audio-iPh...1218872&sr=1-1.

But it does specifically state that it will not work with late model Audi and VW.

Looks like I'll have to wait for eBay or pay 3X as much at the dealer.

yup you're on the right track, weird that in the reviews it says it work on a 2008 A4 but not a 2011 S5
too good to be true I guess since it is about 1/3 the cost of the correct piece
