    New Rubber on the a4

    Hey guys,

I just replaced all of my tires on my a4. I wanted some hardcore all seasons that were okay to drive on asphalt all year round, however had treads deep enough to get me through blizzard weather when I drive to lake tahoe through the Donner Pass about 6-10 times a year.

I decided to go with Goodyear Eagle GT, and they cost me $170 each (somewhat expensive, because I got em at the volkswagen dealership by my house while they did my 40k mile service.

I'm very happy with them, they grip so much better than my previous tires. Check out the tread, pretty deep huh?

    They're 235/45/17 with a speed rating of 97V.

Also, I had to get my windshield wipers replaced. VAG is freakin' a rip-off artist with those as I tried to get the $20 BOSCH wipers from autozone, which fit on every brand of car except VAG. This is because VAG cars have special clips on the windshield wipers that only allow you to use THEIR wipers, which cost a whopping $85. Pretty annoyed about that.

The grip of you new GY Eagles may be dramatically better than those you replaced but I can assure you they will not compare to a set of premium winter treads in the snow and ice conditions. If you get by with them that's great just don't be too overconfident.

Yeah I know theyre not full on snow tires. Ive driven through snow and blizzards over 50 times on my shitty tires so I know pretty well how this car drives in the snow, i have a good amount of experience with it.

Thanks for the heads up though and I won't be over confident even with the new tires. I also have 2 sets of chains i always keep in my trunk just in case the roads get too slippery.

I got 60k miles out of the set I put on about 3 years ago. Pretty good, although they get loud as they wear. I run them year-round, in Cleveland.

The wipers are actually cheaper at the dealership than most places that I've seen. I went to AutoZone thinking that it should be cheaper and they wanted $89.99 for the wipers. I called up the dealership and they told me $18 a side. Spent less than $40 including tax.

I have those on my stockers. Ran them for about 6 months a couple years back, but since have acquired two other decided sets of wheels/tires, so I don't use them any longer.

Ride quality was pretty nice though.

Really? I went to autozone and their windshield wipers made by BOSCH which I really wanted because my aunt is an engineer there, wouldn't clip on. The guys at autozone and the volkswagen dealer said that audi/volkswagen car's

wipers have special clips that only work with OEM pieces so you can't really use aftermarket wipers. Guess you found some aftermarket ones made specifically for VAG cars? i dunno

Well that's good for where you live.

It won't do nearly as good, if you were looking for winters!

I paid the same price for the 19's I have.

I noticed they are not that good in wet, and they will slide if your not careful. Overall good tire for the price if you don't do anything but normal driving.
put about 15k miles on them so far and the tread from what I can tell is only about 1/4th gone. So i'm sure I have another (at least) 30k miles.
