    screwed?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I bought my car with the rear door not locking with the central locks. not a big deal just push it down and your good right? wromg. apearently the inside handle doesnt work and i didnt realise til i tried to open the back door. now i cant unlock the door with the central ocking or by pulling the handle. which means i cant open it now. is there a way to unlock the rear door manually without using the handle?

Also my front interior handle stopped working. do i have to remove the regulators to get to the latch? I pulled the door card and the handle itself is functioning properly so im thinking its messed up on the latch side. does it come out on the outside of the door like early vw's and audis (ive always been a mk2 guy) or am i gonna have to remove the entire regulator to check it out?

how would breaking a window help to get the door open? if i was gonna break stuff to get in id just cut the door card. i'd like to do as little damage as possible and a looksmith is useless w/o a tumbler to work with.

Id try hot glue or something on the lock knob and try to unlock it before destroying anything.

good idea. the ring is replacable also but looks like the door card has to be removed to get it out.

Not sure about the ring thing but I was thinking glue something to the top of the knob and see if you can pull it up.
Hot glue might be strong enough to pull it up and still come off cleanly afterward.

You'll probably want to drill a small pilot hole in the top of the lock knob and then thread a screw into it so you can grab with pliers and pull it up.

I bet the child safety lock is engaged on the inside of the jamb.

Does the central locking pump unlock the other doors? If not, replace the pump then try and unlock it. Don't destroy your interior yet.

^ this. You could try the hot glue idea first, but I'm skeptical that it will have enough bonding strength to hold while you pull the lock knob up. Also wonder how the knob will far with the hot glue (melt/burn). Maybe try super glue, but it may also either "ruin" the knob or not bond well enough... Good luck!

central locks work on the other doors but the pump runs forever after you lock or unlock the car. this makes me think its discontected inside the door that wont work. ima try the hole trick.

Hot glue melts at a pretty low temp compared to normal plastic and usually bonds just fine. The paintless dent removal guys use it because it holds well and pops off cleanly when finished.
I would try this first (Im sure mom/aunt/sister has one) before drilling.

There's your problem. You could try pulling off the B-pillar trim and see if the line is still connected there.

I knew the central was screwy and still is but derrick wins. put a screw in it and it pulled right up. I think the cable pulled loose from the clip at the handle. everything but the central lock on the rear door works now and it appears the airline is in tact in the door itself.
