Ok, I've been reading into people "piggying" their existing cats or just running test pipes with o2 sensor spacers with the B5 1.8t's. Is there any spacers made for the B6 1.8T? I would like to hollow my cat or do the test pipe but I'm not sure where to get one of these spacers. Also if anyone would like to throw in their 0.02 in regards to opinions as to hollow the cat or go test pipe. I'm looking to accomplish this without software and the car would be getting used for off road use of course . Thanks in advance to any replys.

O yeah, one more thing. Are these available without the "off road use only" label?

O2 spacers are easy to make. Use 2 spark plug non foulers or whatever they're called and screw them on top of each other. Cost is under 5 bucks.

The "for off road use only" is to save the company legally, because technically it is illegal for driving on the road...

You could always use a dremel and "remove" that little warning. Besides, not many cops would be able to tell the difference if they made you pop your hood and they took a look around-it looks just like a stock cat.

And to answer your spacer question...

Thanks for the replies everyone. Does anyone have experience with hollowing the cat? Is this as effective as test pipe or should I just drop the $180 for a test pipe and get software?

You could drill it or cut it in half to remove the guts then weld back together. I had mine cut in half because drilling took WAY too long. No need for a test pipe.

^ ^ ^ Like the sound of this... I think I'm just going to go the hole saw route. Now would using just a hole saw through the existing holes in either side of the cat create any kind of resistance? I have absolutely NO experience with drilling out a cat, nor do I know what the insides look like. Is this something that can be punched out after creating the hole with a hole saw? I have heard that the insides are just a fiberglass honeycomb composite type of material. So I take it that I wouldn't have to necessarily cut the thing in half to result in my main objective here correct?

This method is really easy. It's worked for me when it came time to pass emissions. And the code may come back after a while but it only matters if it's gone for passing emissions. You just can't keep them installed for long periods of time. As long as I took them out when the code came back I could just put them back in when testing came around and it would work again.

FWIW, gutting the cat is a much harder route to take.

Install the test pipe and get reflashed with a cat-delete version of your file.

^Well I would love to do this but the lack of money for a clutch before software holds me back... I had the APR 6 hour trial a few months back and my clutch started to slip, sooo.... I'll definitely need a clutch before I do software for sure. Just looking to get some more rasp out of the exhaust for the time being.

Get a test pipe and do anti foulers for the time being. Then when you go for the software get the option for the cat delete.
