    b6 s4 ATF change...no difinitave answer

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
ok...so Im looking to do and ATF change on the 2004 S4 (trip). I have done alot of searching without much difinitave answers. JHM sells the OEM audi fluid for 55$ a qrt...the dealer for 45$. Im looking for a non OEM fluid that meets all the qualifications. From the research done it looks like the tranny in the 04 s4 is the 6HP19A (PLEASE correct me if im wrong! and Ive seen some people referencing that it needs to conform to audi spec G-052-162-A1...but a few questions.

Is the trip in the 04 s4 a CVT style transmission? because amsoil has an oil that shows an application for the audi spec...but also states not to be used in CVT trannys. Some people have used a redline variant...but quoted nothing stating it was applicable.
Also, Im going to be doing the drain where I pull the pan and change the filter and the +/- 5 qrts in the pan...so Im worried about fluids mixing that arent like in type...

Can anyone give some input on what fluids to go with?
here are some that I have found:
    http://www.thectsc.com/index.php?p=p...=184&parent=58
    http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/atf.aspx

I want to go with the right stuff..but id like to not break bank ;)

    Thanks for the input!!!!

Redline says that this product may safely be used in the automatic transaxle of a B6/B7 S4:

I see no reason why not. If in doubt, call Redline directly. Their tech line is amazing and those guys will tell you exactly what you need to know. I think since there is so much ambiguity around the VW/Audi spec, it wouldn't hurt to call before buying anything.

I put ZF LifeGuard6 in my tip, ZF makes the trans and it's what they recommend.

Someone is making it for ZF. I had always speculated it was Shell based on the bottle design.

So pretty much as long as it meets Shell M1375.4, you're fine, from what I've read.

We have heard reports of people being ok to use Redline D6. However we do the services with pricey OEM fluid until we see long term results from using D6. They put special additives in fluid for the clutches and Audi obviously made a change with this 6-speed thus a fluid change from the older 5-speeds. Wrong fluids can cause hard shifts, slipping and other issues. Like I said though I haven't heard issues about D6 but we won't officially back it until we get results from people running it for years.

This thread encouraged me to research this as well. It does say it is Shell M 1375.4 in the Bentley Manual for the 6-speed Automatic 09L trans. The Redline D4 Auto Trans fluid meets this spec which we stock.

Here is our OEM B6 fluid service kit.

We also sell the filters and gaskets separately. -> http://jhmotorsports.com/shop/catalo...56_61_105.html

And due to this thread I just made this service kit in our store with the Redline D4 -> http://jhmotorsports.com/shop/catalo...-s4-p-928.html

We stock B7 kits as well.
