My instrument cluster started making this crazy sound

So I get off work, get in the car start to drive away and this crazy high pitched sound starts coming out of the instrument cluster. It was like the speaker that makes the sound when a DIS warning comes up was stuck on a constant tone. I shut off the car and it goes away. I restart the car and it comes on after 1 minute of driving. I ended up having to drive home this way, with this crazy loud sound. Everything else was normal, no errors displays on the DIS. The instrument cluster was working perfectly.

I finally made it home, but I pulled over a few times to try different things, each time the sound came back after a minute. I did install RNS-E a couple of weeks ago but its been working flawlessly for all this time. I do have a GPS antenna behind the dash, so my first thought was maybe it got loose (it's magnetic) and it was behind the instrument cluster and making the speaker go nuts (where is the instrument cluster speaker that beeps?). So I unplugged the battery, removed the instrument cluster but the nav antenna was securely right where I left it. Also it is not stereo related, the stereo worked fine, turned off etc...

I put everything back and so far (took a 5 minute test drive) everything is back to normal. WTF? that has got to be the weirdest thing, and I've searched everywhere an NO mention of this from anyone.

Luckily I have a vag-com, so I scanned for codes. HVAC fault says "01274 - Air Flow Flap Positioning Motor (V71), 41-10 - Blocked or No Voltage - Intermittent" and Address 36: Seat Mem. Drvr fault: "00668 - Supply Voltage Terminal 30, 06-10 - Signal too High - Intermittent".

Two unrelated things, but both electrical.

The only thing that struck me as weird is I noticed a LED I've never seen before. It's right above the drivers side air vent by the door. It was red for awhile, and then when I got home and had the car off but the key in position 2 it was green. What is that light? Anyone know?

    WTF is going on?

Once when I tried to remove my gauge cluster, it made a loud beeping noise at me, like it was an alarm and it thought it was being stolen. It's possible that since you've gotten behind there before, that the cluster wasn't fully secure, and it somehow became dislodged and started making that sound. Then when you disconnected the battery, pulled it apart and put it back together, you secured it properly and the sound went away. That's my theory.

HRM, interesting theory. Has anyone else heard of the cluster making crazy noise?

And does anyone know what the LED light above the drivers side air vent is? Is it the alarm or something else? It was definitely red when it was making the sound.
