i know its cracked, but does not seem to brake a seal or anything. If just the outside housing seems to be broken does that mean the whole thing is broken?

It might not be leaking yet, but it will eventually. They are cheap, so go ahead and replace it before it becomes trouble.

That one is the most common one to die. Mine was completely corroded. It likely still functioned, but it was only a matter of time before it died. Just replace it.
