    Allroad vs. A6 suspension

    I will be purchasing an a6 6mt donor car to convert my allroad tippy. Will the suspension also be compatable so I can ditch the air ride?

    The rims will be on it soon - have some bronze 18x9.5's with 265/35 rubber. Shopping for ST Coilovers. Then I need to make it fast like yours!

    I am in the process of converting. Did you use A6 avant springs? I just picked up a full set of A6 sedan springs and struts complete with mounts. I want to bolt them on, but am wondering if I should find avant rear springs to keep from bottoming out. You have an rubbing or hitting the bump stops in the back? 225/55R17 tires still? Hate to ask all the questions, but may as well get parts before I start swapping. Thanks

    I used an 03 sedan's setup afaik. All I know is they had "03A6TQ" written on the shock body in Sharpie when they arrived - off ebay for $150.

    I don't have any rubbing or bottoming out, but the rear sometimes appears to sit a little too low. Especially when I have stuff in the back. If avant springs are longer or stiffer than sedan springs, I would definitely suggest going that route although I'm not sure what difference it would make.

    I also kept the allroad front uprights & control arms, using the drilling out method instead of replacing with S4 uprights like some people on here have done (Gumby?).

    I see. I was lucky enough to get the upper aluminum control arm mount with the fronts. No drilling required. I assume the fit and maintain the same ride height. No I just have to find avant rear springs... The other score with the parts i got was the front springs were just replaced on the donor car. Thanks for the input.

    Well, the sedan springs are even without anything in the back. I think an easy solution is a small spring spacer (maybe 1/2") in the back which I am going to play with.

    Do you know for sure that the rear springs in avants are stiffer than sedans? I'd love to know exactly what the rates are just for funsies. :)

    A6 Avant and S6 Avant springs are indeed stiffer in the rear vs. sedan. If anyone wants my 2002 A6 Avant springs we can work out a deal.
