Just wondering what way the fuel return is piped in the quattro fuel tank.

I had a look in the drivers side (passenger side for me) hatch under the rear seat and it looks like the return hose splits into two with one running back to the fuel level sensor.....

I couldn't really see too much without disconnecting removing things so I said I would ask on here instead.

Does anyone have any pictures of this assembly removed from the tank?
How do the two separate 'chambers' of the fuel tank stay level with fuel?
Is this part of the return piping or separate?

The reason I ask is I am going to disconnect the return pipe from the cap on the return side of the tank and just let the return fuel flow out into the tank from the cap rather than through the existing pipe work that is in there. My only worry is that I run out of fuel in the 'supply side' of the tank if the level of the two tanks is controlled by the fuel return pipework.
