    Anyone with a JHM tune?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
What do you think of the tune? Some say its a night and day difference and i have only seen good experiences with them. I know they have a beta version available for the S5 and am hoping someone could chime in on how it performs compared to stock. Been contemplating between this and an APR tune.

I'm not sure if this helps, but I had the APR tune installed in my '11 S5 and while I did notice some minor differences I certainly wouldn't consider it "night & day" from the stock tune. Everything I've read is that not much will be gained from a tune. I'm curious though what a "beta" tune could do differently considering the same parameters are changed? I'm in Cali and using 91 octane but even with 100 octane mixed to get 93 octane the difference was still minimal.

    I'm all ears....

The tune can be custom fitted to your mods (whichever is best); they have about 6 different programs to try out.

You are right and this is because the S5 comes stock with a solid tune, however, JHM is known to significantly modify over hundred different factors versus the competitors which just advance the timing a bit, remove speed limiter, and accelerator delay.

A software tune on a NASP without work done to the cams, pistons, headers, etc... is a WASTE OF MONEY imo.

Does the JHM tune for the S5 need the CPU yanked and shipped like the S4's?

Yes I know a tune isnt great for a NA motor. BUT the b6/b7 s4 have the same 4.2 engine as the s5. Many s4 owners and jhm have documented great 1/4 mile times (I believe in the high 12s). So the tune must bring some sort of difference over stock.

I'm sure a stage 2 s5 would bring a noticeable difference from stock

Off topic; where in Utah are you? The wife and I golf a lot in St. George and stay at the Entrada Inn. We've played most courses in the area. Been going there for many years ( since '78 ) before it exploded with people after it was ranked the #1 spot to retire. Entrada wasn't even around then LOL! We love it there! We have some friends near Salt Lake that own PFADT Race Engineering ( Corvette suspension stuff )

    Ok, carry on...

i called Jhm and they said they couldn't give ETA to when the final will be available. I want this tune. They also said you have to ship ECU in and it would not wipe all the VAG com mods.

yea i want this tune also, my only problem is hiding it from the service dept. Is there any way to do this? Can i save the jhm chip and the stock map to a vag com and just load them back and forth? Im not to familiar with vag coms. Otherwise i guess my dealer is just going to have to deal with me having it

If by the same engine you mean completely different, then yes. I agree with the potential for gains with a tune and exhaust on this motor though. DI 4.2 motor can make a lot more power than what it rolls out with for sure. JHM has a lot going on, but I'm sure the 4.2 S5 will show impressive bolt on gains in the near future.

True the only thing the same about these engines is the numbers 4.2. Also regarding tunes JHM is known to go a lot more in depth with their tunes than some of the larger companies who tend to just tweak the timing, a/f ratios and remove speed limiters, and they have much more experience with the non-turbo engines.

Yup, infact the 4.2 in the S5 is closer to the RS4s 4.2 than the b6/b7 S4!

I have the JHM 91 tune on my B6 S4 and I can verify the tune is night and day from the stock tune. Even before you drive the car if you just blip the throttle and its instantly a parent that your is completely different. The blip sends your tach racing for redline almost as if you added a light weight fly wheel. Then when you drive it you can feel the extra power everywhere...on the bottom in the mids and on the topend! The car has a sense of urgency that it never had before! And when you really let it out give it the full go pedal and you hit 140+ and its still pulling with a full head of steam you start to think you are going to run straight through the speedometer (170 MPH on the B6) and keep right on going (I'm not going to verify this here) ;-)! If JHM's work on the B6 B7 S4 is any indication of what they has in store with the B8 S4 you guys are in for a treat!

Last time I talked to JHM, their flash loader was being updated or something like that. It was down for a while too. They told me the 4.2 S5 tune is in the works though. I was not given an ETA.
