    A4 Avant Rear leg room.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Guys, Its time for me to FINALLY purchase a new car and get rid of this SUV I've been driving for a year now. I need to know whats the rear leg room is like. I'm 5 9 and need to be able to carry passengers that are about my height, maybe a little taller say 6 2 but thats it.

thoughts? I hated carring passengers in my B5 because I would end up eating the sterring wheel.

I've never owend a B5 to compare, but the B7 Avant is not all that impressive in the rear legroom department. I'd say it's only marginally better than my Mk4 GTI. It does have sculpted seatbacks also, which helps a little bit. I'm only 5'8" so I can carry similar sized adults OK, but I wouldn't drive to California with passengers.

Hopfully someone with both B5 and B7 experience will chime in.

There is plenty of legroom if you slide the front seats forward... a bunch! Over 6' folks will be cramped in the legs for sure. I rarely have folks in the backseat. If I do, I take one for the team and slide forward. That said I had two 6'4 guys back there and they didn't complain.

Avant will be the same as sedan. You'll have more room in a Passat.

This is true. Avant doesn't offer any more legroom in the back than the sedan. The Passat has slightly more room, however the A6 has slightly more room than the Passat.

I was going to say a6 too. The b7 has decent leg room in the back, much better than the b5, but not great. a6 is just a lot longer so theres more legroom.

Having said that I and almost 6' and I fit fine in the back of my b7 avant.

I just passed 95k and I've never had a CEL or carbon buildup issues. Between myself and the previous owner (who is the service manager at an Audi dealer here) this car has always had an oil change at 5k and Shell/Chevron premium since new. The only thing I've had to do maintenance-wise outside of oil changes is the fuel pump/filter at ~85k and the coil packs at 55k, which was part of a campaign I believe. Like the other FSI engines these cars were meant to be driven hard. Even Audi has told me in order to avoid any carbon issues, use good gas and drive the piss out of it.

i have done dozens and dozens of 5 hour trips with people over 6 feet in the back, and including myself who is 6'1" driving. These things have a lot more room than people give them credit for

A6 is definitely the way to go, I have an Avant, and it becomes cramped very quickly in the back. Test drove an A6, and if I could have picked up an A6 Avant then I would have done.

The only problem with the A6 is no manual trans. The A4 is not exactly roomy in the back, but more than tolerable for most people. Glad to see you're looking for Avants though. That's the only way to go

The B8s have much better rear room than the B7s. It's worth considering.

I'm not sure a Maybach is quite in the same league as a crown vic.

Nice to see you in the B7 forum. I'm 6'5" and whenever I have passengers in the back seat I just pull my seat up or make them sit behind the passenger front seat. No one has ever complained, but it's definitely not ideal. I just had a kid and had a passenger in the front, a passenger behind me, in the middle and a baby seat behind the front passenger. Forgot to add the little Maltese dog in there too :). My car feels way more spacious than my b5 and it wasn't all that cramped with all of those people in my car. Obviously I would prefer the a6 or a b8, but I'm so attached to my b7 that I can't bear to get rid of it. Either way I'm glad too see you getting in an avant. I think most of us OG'ers have had one. Let's talk more about it in the "other forum".

Hey, I am 6'5" and anyone, not alone a short person needs lots of room. The Audi is fine, bu the B8 has more legroom than a B7.

The legroom, proper boot, and quattro sealed the deal with me. I looked at the B6's, but
didn't have the room and I wanted an Avant.

I went from a B5 A4 Avant to a B7 A4 Avant. I truly believe the B5 had more room for rear passengers. I still have my B5 S4 and still believe the B5 has more room. I may be wrong. This is just what I believe from hauling 4 people around in my cars.

There is no difference between the sedan and Avant as far as rear leg room.

Our 2011 GTI has better legroom than our 2005 B6 Avant.
