Remote start install. Possible to keep seat heaters, defrost, heated windows 'active'

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I consider adding an aftermarket remote start to my 2002 Allroad (manual).
Last car I did it, it was NOT possible to selected the heated seats, defrost of windshield and electric rear window heater, which partially defeated the purpose of using a remote start in winter.

Is it possible with the Allroad?
01 Allroad Tiptronic, TCU tune, mild stg 3 (350 HP) tune (stock injectors) KraftwerkTurbo TM1. Lower, Wider. Custom tip vent pod with Podi
02 Allroad 6 spd, Kraftwerk Turbo TM6, 750cc, 3" MAF, piggy, FMIC, CM stg 5 (hate). 30 psi at 3600 rpm. Needs stronger rods (coming).

using the remote start to activate those I am not sure.

the seats are on a tumbler wheel and should come on if left in the on position as will the front defrost... the rear glass would be nice to know.

I am curious about the rest of this too.

You'll have to defeat the immobilizer for the remote start to work. the seat heaters will be on if you leave them on, but the defrost is a momentary switch meaning you have to press it to be on, and defeating that could lead to some interesting wiring changes.

I've never used the defrost functions in my Audi. Do both front (HVAC) and rear windshield defrosters disable when you turn the engine off? If so, leave the default setting to dash vent only, high fan, high temp when you turn the car off.

Just the rear windscreen, if you shut the car off with the HVAC set to defrost it will still be defrost when you start the car back up. Here in the PNW I leave my HVAC head is set to defrost almost all winter, moist coastal air at 5 or 6 degrees above freezing combined with 5 months of solid rain tends to lead to a lot of fogging ;) The only setting that automatically resets to off on my HVAC head is recirc.

Front heated seats will be on if the control wheel is left in an on position, the rear heated seats are only activated when the pressure sensors under the seats detect enough weigh that it thinks someone is sitting there. Those are the same sensors which automatically activate/deactivate the rear airbags. I generally leave my rear seat heaters in the 6 position all the time since I; a) rarely have rear passengers and b) most people would never think to look for seat heating in the rear so it lets them know the option is there.

That's an idea but you'll have to remember to turn the defrost on before shutting off the car as the defrost will shut off after a certain amount of time (10-15 mins) as near as I can tell.

The rear windscreen/wing mirror defroster will turn off after about 15 min (or when you turn the car off, which ever comes first) to prevent burning out the heating elements. The HVAC defrost setting doesn't turn off until you manually switch it to another mode.

Decent remote starts will have the option for both a pulsed and a latching output so enabling the rear defrost shouldn't be an issue as long as you know what you're doing.

With the newer dei stuff, it has a temperature sensor built in to the brain so that the defroster output only kicks on below a certain temp which is good considering there is no need to have your defroster on in summer.

The other nice thing about the newer dei stuff is that it is built to work with a manual transmission, and can also function as a turbo timer.

I personally have a matrix 3.3, and I would recommend this unit.

Yeah. It's certainly not fun. I could prep one and send it your way if you want but even then it's still a lot of work.

I heard it's not good at all to idle a turbo charged engine. Is this true ?
Good thing in my case is, in about
2 weeks she got stored for the winter
and will not see any snow.

    Cheers

my setup too with the viper, has all the options wired in. if you wanna wire the heated seats in you also have to bypass the weight sensor, no big deal but you cant just leave them turned on. remote starts are great but are still hard on a car in the cold, best to plug in if you can or even better get a katz coolant heater, nice and warm as soon as you turn the key.

If you've never done a remote start before, I wouldn't recommend the a6 be your first one.

Dre is right, any Audi/VW shouldn't be your first car to do a remote start on.

Hey Dre what did you used for your bypass the DEI can1 or 556U ?

I have a 2000, so no immo here. On newer audis/vw's I usually use a 556uw wired in to the factory transponder ring and if its new enough an flcan as well.
