    serious problem - need help

this just started recently, when i let off the gas the car vibrates A LOT, like when you drive over the rumble strips on the highway. its intermittent and so far only happens in 3rd and 5th gear. its coming from the middle of the car, could it be my transmission? i read on other forums it could be my shift linkage. i don't know if this has anything to do with it but often in order to shift into first gear i have to bring it to second gear then back to first or else it wont go into first. please help

Driveshaft? Have you looked under the car and inspected the suspension and drivetrain for play?

No, rotational slop is apparently common. I meant loose components. Also, you live in the tri-state area, is there snow/ice stuck anywhere or contacting anything?

Most all of the mounts on my car were shot when I bought it and I didn't experience any serious or moderate vibrations from it. Just food for thought.

Do you have an aftermarket exhuast? Mine will move sometimes and touch in the center area right past where the cat back hooks up. It usually vibrates while slowing down or going around a bend. And sounds and feels similar to rumble strips.

I'd look at the driveshaft carrier bearing. They can rip and flop around
