key fob question

so im sick of using my valet key, the local dealer says they ca get me a new fob and cut it for $90, i can program it my self with 1 key in door and other in ignition, but they said if i do that only the power locks would work and do have it be able to be a ignition key it my be programmed by a scanner?? true or bs?

Depends on what year your car is, if it's '00 or higher there's a good chance it has an immobilizer in which case it will have to be programmed to work with your ignition.
