First time with my Audi S4...Hershey, PA Autocross

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Yesterday I went to an autocross for the first time in my newly acquired Audi S4. I've only done an autocross a few times before in my BMW 135i last year and had a blast. This time was no different except an S4 is a completely different beast out there. I needed to learn to go hard down the straights and stay on it through the slalom because the all wheel drive of the Audi would hold that well. Then hard on the brakes before a tight corner because it understeers. All in all, I had a great time and finished with my best time only being .3 of a second slower than my experienced auto crosser buddy in his Toyota MR2 turbo.

And the rest of the pictures from the day can be found here:

The car has KW V2's and nothing was prepped at all for the autocross. I never raised air pressure or anything plus I was on all season tires and they were rolling under through the corners.

The car normally has Porsche twist wheels on it but the night before I threw on the stock wheels.

That truck is a Toyota X-Runner and he autocrossed it. Didn't do too bad either!

Wow that tire roll is... impressive...

Nice pictures though - surprising how much roll is still present even on KW V2's huh?

Have you run your car at a road course? S4 is more suited to that type of track driving I think - longer corners and straights to better use the power our cars can make.

yea there was some decent body roll even with the KW V2's.

My boss has been bugging me to go out to a road course with him. We are thinking about going to Summit Point sometime to take his 944 and my S4 out on the track.

Why not? They are beastly, not overly competitive, but still fun to drive. Plus autoX one of the beast makes you a better driver :) then when you jump into another car it's a dream :)

Good to see someone else is also enjoying their s out at an autocross event! You are going around those corners all wrong tho!! This is how you're supposed to do it :P

autox kills control arms. I'd rather take it to a full road course. These cars are too heavy to be trying to negotiate cones in second gear. Just my opinion. Sick pic^! Looks like you've got some 80/20 center diff action going on there..

I don't know about him but mine has the 4:1 center diff and on some of the big sweeping corners I was def. kicking the tail out.

lol, yea.. stasis diff. I would much rather do a road course but for a cheaper alternative for some weekend fun it was cool.

btw found a big downside to the 4:1 diff- Destroys tires..
    Ohh the b5...

I love Auto-X the S4. It lets you find the handling limits in a controlled environment. Also, as said before, it def makes you a better driver. Can't wait to get mine back together and go again next spring with the added power.

oh yea, I love the 4:1 diff, it gives more of a RWD feel which is what I prefer! :)

Lol thats ok tho. I think that diff config should be standard on all audis. At wot in the corners it performs how a awd car should

Great job op. I love autocrossing my s! I can't believe I missed out on that. And only 25min from my place too >:( . I know the cars are heavy as shit and my poor control arms are screaming bloody murder whenever I do it, but it's the last thing on my mind when I'm grinning from ear to ear tearing up a parking lot. Besides I didn't buy an Audi thinking, hmmm I'm going to save alot of money on control arms and cv boots and what not with this purchase :D . I'd love to do a road coarse but I haven't gotten a chance to yet. Op I have h&r ultras for the stiffer spring rate and the front and rear hotchkis sways. Deff think about sway bars.
