    APR! We need some support over here...

    Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    I ask for a few things from you guys. First off a nice 3500rpm launch control like you guys have on your tuned mk6s would be nice. Second a updated tune for our K04! Why is it that the K04
    makes crazy power on the transverse but we
    Have 311chp??

    1) 3500rpm launch control
    2) Updated K04 tune and 100 octane file
    3) 280-320whp on a 6MT
    4) High 12's to low 13's in the 1/4 mile...

    Agreed...I won't go K04 until I see more benefit than the Stage II APR Turbo Back I already have.

    same here, I almost bought the k04 kit but after seeing numbers on their other k04 kits, I was disappointed.

    The GTI's don't have valve-lift (right?), what else is different for the transverse engine?

    The transverse cars have a bit more WHP because they have less drivetrain loss, a massively different intercooler and the head design pretty different.

    I believe that is the only difference, besides the way the motor is mounted of course.. I know the A4 will never be as quick as the GTI (GTI has better gearing, less weight and FWD) but a nice 300WHP K04 kit with low 13 second quarter mile numbers would be great. I don't think we are far off, a nice software update from APR should do it. Little more boost, some more timing and more aggressive 100 octane file should put us over 300whp with ease. The K04 is def a very capable turbo when mated to this platform. This is not the 1.8T days where a K04 or even GT28 couldn't even come close to stock S4 performance. Heck a GT28 1.8T A4 is probably even with a stage 2 b8.

    Is it a problem to squeeze some more power out of the B8? Can you guys make launch control an option for us like the GTI's as well? 300whp shouldn't be a problem..

    My friends APR Stage 2 MK6 isn't much quicker than my car. He has launch control though which I like and makes more HP were we only make TQ...

    Was it the K04 GTI that went 11.x or the "true" APR stageIII Garrett based VW TSI?

    Two K04 GTI's have broken 11's. Both MK6. One is here local to me and he was on APR 100 octane and another was the AWE K04 Kit which broke into the 11's on drag radials.

    The B8's 2.0T is vastly different. The entire valve train design, location of the fuel pump, stock compression ratio (heads), the block, the intercooler, etc is different. Really the only things they share is the 2.0T designation. So expecting the same performance to be there is just silly. APR had to adapt their K04 kit to fit this engine, even more so than the B7's 2.0T which is nearly the same as the transverse 2.0T. It's going to take a little time to eek out more as there's still R&D to go on this engine platform.

    maybe APR's engineers just need to put their heads together sooner rather than later, cuz by the time they have a solution to make more power out of the TFSI, the cars will probably be sold already.

    Lets try to remember there are lots of models out there. I'm sure APR can't devote 100% of their staff to one model all the time. I wonder how many other boards are screaming we want more power when are we getting a turbo upgrade and where the hell is our iPhone software...

    3.0T and transverse get all the love because that's what APR races. Thats where all the R&D comes.

    There may be some more left, depending how hard we run the turbocharger, but the air flow characteristics of this engine appear to be pretty different compared to the transverse engine. This is due to the Audi Valve Lift cam profiles.

    Blue = A4
    Red = A3

    As you can see, low end is much quicker and greater on the A4 with Audi Valve Lift compared to the A3.

    Hi Arin,

    Is APR currently developing an updated map for the A4/A5 B8 K04 ?

    If not ... why not ?

    What is needed for you to start developing an updated map ?

    Cheers :)

    Arin, does this mean that the cams are different mechanically and possibly could be swapped? Or is there more to this story such as variable valve lift and timing?

    How do these cam profiles play into things like big turbo swaps?
