Coolant and burning smell. Just bought it.

Hey everyone, if ya could help me out that would be appreciated. I just picked up my first s4 on Monday and after 2 daays of driving it I started to smell coolant at stops. And if I get on it I smell burning. Can't tell what to. The car is a 2000 with 97000 miles. The power steering pump is also going on it. I just bought the tb and wp kit with cam and crank seals. Plan on doing that in 4 days. I also have very weak or no heat at times. Anybody have any ideas or experience similar burdens with theirs?

you have a leaking cam cover or rocker cover gasket... easily fixed

I just bought my 01 a little over a month ago with 99k miles and I had the same burning smell. I had to change the valve cover gaskets. The kit you got should cover it. Sounds like you know a bit already so you should be good.

I bought the ecs ultimate plus timing belt kit. I don't think it came with it? Where can I get them?

yep, its a B5 S4..

valve cover gaskets, 2ndary water pump, cam adjusters, coolant passage o-rings, 268.00 power steering pump hoses..

you name it, it can/will leak..

I'm definatly happy I bought it. Just want to do all the prevent matinance on it before something major happens. Plus I'm going stage 2+ until my turbos go. But I don't think that will be anytime soon after. The turbos just got replaced at 60k.

Based on your simptoms (low or no heat and burning coolant smell on acceleration) I'd say it's the after run coolant pump under the intake manifold. Mine went and when it did it pooled in the valley and ran back onto the back of the engine and exhaust when I would accellerate from a stop. There may be other issues as well but I think this is a safe first guess.

Thats what i thought it would be off the bat. but i cant find a drop of coolant under the intake manifold.

Only thing our kit doesn't have that others have mentioned is the valve cover gaskets. They are available in a kit HERE
