Catch can VS. Water Meth Inj. Carbon build up

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
so i have been doing some reading tonight on the problems with the fsi cars and from what i under stand is the catch can will collect the oil that is breathed into the engine however the majority of the build up is not caused from the breathing, it down to poor design of overlapping cams that force dirty exhaust fumes back into the engine.

The water meth injection sprays water into the cylinder or incoming fuel-air mixture to cool the combustion chambers which will help reduce the amount of carbon created....it will also add about 10-15hp to the car but not worth it if your just looking to get the hp........with all of that being said here are some questions

do you think its worth the extra money to just do the water meth injection?

has anyone done this on their car and if so how is it working?

and whats your views on the catch cans did you check for carbon build up before and after installing

please feel free to add anthing that i may have missed and any other input would be helpful

Do you mean in a stock car? The gains can be much greater than just 15hp, but assuming you mean a stock car, yes it will still provide some gains.

But, meth it's more for prevention of carbon, not really gonna clean it.

i respectfully disagree.....now i don't know of physical evidence of a b7 2.0t engine itself, but i have begun to part out my buddies MS3 which shares essentially the same kind of engine

he has been running water meth and a CC for the past 7000 miles, and we took off his intake mani the other day and just being curiious i looked at his valves......not exactly free of carbon.....but compared to pictures of what we are used to, there was next to no carbon build up

granted he also had a breather valve delete (or more commonly called an EGR delete) which may have helped too, but man o man, were his valves clean

jmarch was also there and he got to see the valves too.....if you have not considered watermeth before.....i HIGHLY recommend considering it

You do realize this "poor" design is standard on most cars that meet emissions criteria? It's nothing new on a 2.0T, however without having port injection to help keep that mess clean, it turns into an issue, coupled with a not so great vacuum PCV system.

The 2.0T FSI Tech section on VwVortex has had numerous threads come up on this, general consensus is that WMI and CatchCans will somewhat reduce the rate the deposits accumulate, i've even seen a before/after valve pics of pre CC to after install and it didn't look like it really did anything different. WMI will only graze the surface and won't clean it up very much, like stated already.

BG induction cleaning, maybe seafoam threatments and sticking to shorter than recommended OCIs will help, I think it's the people who stick to the VAG recommended oil service interval that have the most issues as it's only when the oils shear that they start to break apart and cause these deposits

BG and seafoam likely do nothing than sparkle the carbon imho.
these topics have all been researched thoroughly previously and i would have highly reccomended searching, but it seems as though we are going to start this debate yet again so i might as well go with it.....

i have no pics to prove this, but a catch can AND watermeth injection will take care of all your carbon issues. but you will need to physically clean your valves prior, because the WMI will not in itself clean away the carbon. also you must consider that WMI is only used under boost and ussually 10 psi or higher. so if you just baby your car around it isnt doing anything to help.

I have never had any experience with this upgrade.. Maybe a dumb question, but do you need to refill the meth? Does it work like a NOS kit that runs out? Or is the meth circulated so its functional att all time? Sorry for noob question.
