    Passenger Door Lights Not Working

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Both front and rear passenger doors have no illumination (neither the red markers on the side or the puddle lights). Everything else works fine in both doors (power windows and door locks and their illumination), just not the puddle/marker lights. Any ideas? I find it odd that it's both doors on the same side.

What about the door open indicator on the dash?

Yep. The door open indicators are working and floor illumination works, but still not puddle and side indicators. I find it weird the two are linked because the fuses are divided front and back and not Driver-side to Passenger-side, so it's not a fuse issue (checked em anyway, but not it).

Just read that thread. It doesn't really pertain to the issue I'm looking at. In that situation the whole door (locks, windows, everything) quit working. Mine is just the lights, not only that, but the same lights on both doors of the same side of the car. Might go ahead and check all the fuses tonight, see if it some odd something-or-other.

It's probably just something simple like broken wires.

This is why I posted what I did, you didn't search. I provided a thread that had some good info on what to check, the door wiring harness. This area has a lot of wires that are prone to cracking. Maybe you don't have all the symptoms but it's another check method. Just pull the rubber grommet back and look for cracked wires, that would be the simplest check, or try opening the door every so slightly and see if the lights flicker or come on when the door opens/closes to a certain point. Then after you tried that, you can report back. It would be strange to have both doors with the same cracked wire but it is possible. I could be wrong with my diagnosis but at least I provided you with another method which you didn't search for and test.

Thank you. I do appreciate your input. I will check as soon as I can and report back. I did quickly check the doors tonight (now that it's dark I can see the lights) and they do flicker on for just a split second when I open either door. But I can't get them to stay on even if I try to hold the door at the point where they flicker. Looks like I'll be checking fuses AND pulling the boot back to check the wires.

Bringing this back from the dead. Do both passenger doors somehow tie into eachother further down the wiring? That's the only way i can see this issue happening to both doors the exact same way.

Yes. Everything works in the door except the puddle lights. When I open the door, the puddle lights flash on for just a split second and then nothing. Both doors on the passenger side.

I have the same problem. it's got to-be the switch that recognizes the door is open.. works intermittenty. on other cars there is usually a physical switch that is actuated by the door. in OOOO. it seems the switch is integrated into the latch. let's takethat door card off!

Yeah, it's the microswitch located on the door latch. One of my rear doors did that when I bought my 03' . I think what happens is the switch still 'works' meaning the ground signal when door is open is happening at the latch, but a connection on the latch is failing.
I tricked it by soldering a short length of wire around the circuit- basically I ran a wire from the connection on the latch microswitch to the wire in the harness at the main connection for the latch. Fixed.
I used VCDS to read measuring blocks and tested the wires one-by-one at the latch until I found the wire that, when grounded, told the door locks module the door was open. Patch that wire to the microswitch.

You could do it with a multimeter or even a test light too.
You just want to probe the wire at the latch harness, if you use a test light to ground, the interior light will come on when you hit the magic wire. Verify that your microswitch is still cycling ground/ no ground when the door-latch-catch is operated, and if so solder your patch wire from the microswitch to the wirenat the harness.
If you replace the microswitch it may not fix it if the the connection on the circuit board has failed.

Makes me wonder if the ccm could be showing one it's it's multiple failing points? Both of my passanger doors intermittently will not trigger the puddle lights or door open sign on the dash, like when car is running they don't work but when car is off they work

Door open signal on the dash works, windows work, etc. I'm going to spray a little wd-40 up in latch to see if that helps.

Probably the cause. Check and peel back boots between body and door and check small wires. My problem with windows and door light function was actually related to the driver's door at this location.

I ordered a bunch of micro switches since they are cheap. Out of curiosity, what was specifically wrong with the drivers door that caused the passenger side to go out? I swapped out my drivers window switch the other day. Maybe I broke something.

I got similar situation with rear left door ( behind driver )

    Here is my case

Couple of weeks ago I had my two left doors ( Driver door and rear left door ) replaced under Audi Rust warranty.

The doors were replaced with new doors - painted etc.
all look good but last night I noticed that rear left door lights :
    button illumination light
    door latch illumination light
    warning light ( red )
entry light ( puddle light - in my case with audi logo ) is not working
I cant lift or open the window from this door button
I cant lock the car from rear left door lock button

    Sound is working
The door locks and unlock from car key or driver door
the window open and close from driver door
I haven't got the rear windows locked from driver door as the rear right door is completely functional , lock/ window lights - all of the lights.
Dash indicate when door is open and closed.

I've made few pictures to illustrate
and run diagnostic with VAG Com 12.12 ( diagnostic log bellow )

Here are pics (I don't know how to make them visible)

Check the harness for wires that have become brittle and cut over time. My driver door had loss of lights and no sound from the speaker. I looked at the harness where the door opens and shuts and that's all it was. I cut and soldered the wires and good as new. Good luck.

    Thanks for the advises guys

I open the trim and found the problem.
One of the plugs was disconnected from the control Unit.

Hello Voltage.... I am having the same problem with my 2001 Audi A6 2.8T. My passenger door front and back light will not illuminate and will not trigger the interior light.

Which trim did you open? where exactly did you find this module in the picture? Thanks. My was working until yesterday

I just want to add - the door latch has a 7 or 9 pin connector. These common problems may not be caused by the micro switch itself... but by solder connections where the connector pins are attached to the circuit board. In my case, the problem was especially annoying to trace because everything tested fine when it was apart. But when the latch was put together and the screws tightened, the circuit board flexed just enough that the pin-board connections became unreliable.
