76K Mile RS4 Carbon Cleaning. Worst We've Seen Yet!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
This is forum member Javi3r187's RS4. We did a standard CB service on it, oil & filter change, & a new fuel filter. He has recently done spark plugs as well.
Car being over 75K mile mark and never had a cleaning done we were assuming it to be pretty bad and we were right.

Here are some pictures! Enjoy! If you want to do this cleaning on your direct injected motor let us know!

When my motor came out with 54k on it, there was very little carbon. I don't deny that it happens, but I think if you drive the car hard often, it will stay clean. However in my case it looks like the old carbon made its way into the #5 Cylinder ;)

Yeah I know it was pretty bad but good things it is now done . As the pictures show these guys do a good job! I have a couple of questions ..
How often should this be done?
And off topic on the carbon
How often do u have to do the timing belt serpentine belt?
When should I replace water pump and how often should I replace it?

I think it would be a good idea for you read the Self Study Guide. Very informative. If someone will tell me how to post a PDF doc, I'll post it here for you.

    Cliff notes:
CB cleaning should be every 10K imo. Others will double that figure. Personal preference.
    We have timing chains.
Serp belt is in the book for 55K service I think. I did mine at 30K with the tensioner and again at 60K with the tensioner. Just one of those things that is not expensive and as a DIY, fairly easy. Gives me piece of mind.

It is such a shame that things like this have to be dealt with in some of these cars and the majority of owners out there probably have no clue. I watched an RS4 at the track recently do a few runs and it had to of had a problem like this. The guy was getting off the line pretty good and everything and the times and speeds were terrible. I wanted to find him in the parking lot to talk to him to be sure he was aware of this problem but didn't see the car after he got done running, so I think he may have left. Get a nice cleaning and he would probably shit himself on the difference in power.

I videoed one of his runs and think this was the best one I saw

It was pretty fucking clean. Not shiny, black still but no big chunky buildup

Granted, my definition of driving hard is different than most sane people...

Do you guys do this on other direct injection platforms? Have you done it on a 335?
