I'm building a full track car. I planned on using a 1.8t. But now I'm having second thoughts. Please tell me what u think and why. Weight is a big factor. Not coolness

    1.8t fully built ~550 hp
    2.7t fully built. ~6-700 hp
    4.2 v8 possibly turbo'd ~600hp

Things that count to me. Power and delivery/ weight

Isn't the 4.2 just slightly heavier then the 1.8t, and more power stock.

Vr6 Turbo if you can do that? Other wise I'd do the 2.7 turbo.

VR6 for reliability and big single turbo with high capabilities. While 2.7 turbo will get you great power and easy to upgrade in power levels.

But the 2.7 is a anchor. I dont know the weight of the vr6, but if i were to do an engine swap i would do a 4.2 or 1.8. If i did the 1.8 i would bore out the block to 2l for a better spool.

I think its difference is ~20lbs due to the aluminum block verse iron. A disassembled 1.8t block is heavier then it looks.

I'm sure is a diesel block (longer stroke) bored to run 2.2L. Some have pushed the bored to 83.5mm to make 2.3L. Mike Hood is running 83.5mm bored in a 1.8T block which some people refer to as a 2.1L.

I think for the money, the 2.7T is the one to go with. Its been pushed to its limits already. All sorts of parts are available so you're not into thousands for custom fabricating parts. As with any engine, due it right or due it twice. I would assume you want a true track car to wind out on the long stretches and not a autocross sprinter to bounce around cones.

the 4.2 has 340hp stock, is almost as light as a 1.8t, and you can get up to around 400hp fairly easily. You don't have to deal with turbo lag. I think the 4.2 is better overall. He is building a track car, not a drag car. The less weight up front the better.

Yeah it's gunna be a road course car not autox. So I'm either doing a 18t strokes to 2l with a 5857 and every part you can think of. Or a 4.2 and get as much n/a power as possible.
I was doing some research and there are so many 4.2 engine. Anyone know which ones are better or worse for my case.

The aluminum 1.8t block is cool, but i think the 4.2 is the best bang for your buck.

You would have to be a giant idiot to spend all that time stuffing a 4.2 in there when there is a more compact/more power/cheaper to mod/ lsx series motors out there.

i would love to put an lsx in but thats just not going to work. im still down to the 2l or 4.2l

i know i can make the power i want with the 1.8t done the way i have it setup in my head. but i need more info on the 4.2 v8 so i can make my choice. i have been looking everything up all day today and info is very hard to find thats reliable. if i did the v8. it would have to have 500hp n/a or 600+ with turbos. from what i have found no one makes parts for the v8. all i found was rods. but i would want it fully build.
and the 2.7t is to heavy. so thats out

An extra 0.8L with not much weight gain! You could convert it to RWD, use a 4.2L and move the engine back a lot.
What are the rules of the class you want to race in?
What chassis mods will you be doing?

I'd look at the rules of the class you plan on running in. The 4.2 is nice but will likely be the most expensive option however 600hp on a 4.2 V8 isn't asking much of the engine, but since there aren't any go fast parts readily available you'll have to fabricate most everything. There is the option of an RS6 engine however.

I think the v8 plus turbos would be to heavy. You gotta add two turbos inter coolers. Lines. Bla bla. That a lot of extra. If I do the. 4.2 it's gunna be n/a.

Go with a high revving built 2.0-2.1 with an HTA GT30R .63a/r, if you're looking for very high HP.....There just isn't enough space for a 4.2L and even a single turbo, unless you do a rear mount setup. The B5 engine bay is tight enough as is......If you're fine with 300-360hp from an N/A motor (more may be possible with a JHM tune, downpipes, and a P&P treatment to the IM....maybe even meth injection too), then swap in an A6 V8 or a S6/S8 motor.....Otherwise, stick with a built 20v. You won't be disappointed, provided you get the proper tune
