I have one and it seems to work sometimes but disables the radio and flashes the hazards I think? But yesterday I was getting tint and I left them with it but it would start the car and then stall it. I tried it flipped both ways.

Does anyone know the ins and outs with it?

I have 2 flip keys (master keys), 1 plastic key (only unlocks), and one metal with plastic handle non-flip (vallet key).

I am sure it works fine and there is just some special way to do it

Valet key is supposed to work just like a normal key but it won't unlock the trunk or glovebox if they have been locked with you regular key. Did the immobiliser signal come on at all?

The plastic key works the same way but is plastic and small so that it can fit easily into your wallet.

Push + and recirc button at the same time to change it..

My brother has a black plastic key that came with his B6 and it starts the car just fine. I didn't drive long with it, but I used it to move his car around the house when he wasn't home and had his keys.

When I bought my car the dealer said the black plastic key would start the car but it is only designed to be used a couple times and then the plastic will wear down and it will no longer work.

Its tough plastic, so I don't see that happening, and I've used it on many occasions. (My bro always has his keys with him)

I have never actually used my plastic one so you are probably right. That is just what the dealer told me when I bought my car.

So why would my velet key start the car and then kill it? and when it did work it would disable the navi, keep the flashers on, and keep it in limp mode? The only thing that has changed really is the tune, but that is usually just fuel map (with wastegate, rail press and a few others)

What happened was somebody probably got a new key a long the way and then had it coded. But when you do that, you need to code all keys that you want to use at the same time. They didn't bring the valet key in and therefore, it's no longer a valid key to electrically unlock it, however, it will turn the ignition. Bring all your keys into the dealer and have them recode it, if you want to add keys, do it at this time.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong or have been mis-lead...

I don't remember where I read that the valet key also limits the cars speed.... that way your valet can't go joyrinding LoL... It also limited other things. I don't recall all what...

The owners manual does state the plastic key is for an emergency use only.... keys getting lost or locked inside...

What's the point of limiting the "speed" of our 1.8ts?? haha

The term valet is only mean to mean its a key you can have just to give to the valet. It doesn't alter any parameters of the car.

but it did, and disabled my navi, and made the hazards go. I thought it was just another extra key until I tried it and got these symptoms, then Saturday (3-4 months since I last used it), it just would start up and then die.

    idk why
