trouble with fresh tial 605 build

picked up the car last night and it ran great, this morning i took my dad for a rip and it pulled great until i shifted into 5th,she quit pulling and started to lose speed actually. wjat is going on, ripped great through the rest of the gears but as soon as i try and pull in 5th 105+ it just has nothing. crusing around town in 5th with no boost everything is fine. im trying to get her up to autosport werks in broomfield for a legit tune and look over. anyone have any imput

Just to clarify, is it only having problems in 5th, or did it start having problems all of the time after you first got into 5th? Do you have a boost gauge?

From the sound of it, you're just on a base tune. I wouldn't worry too much until you have better tune, as that could very easily be the problem.

yes! we have talked and this is the place im going as soon as i get back in town. yeas the problem is only in 5th/6th, every other gear pulls like a trian. boost/ af guages are being installed asap. im hoping its only a shitty base tune as it scared me for a minute thinking i might be cutting fuel and running lean. no boost leaks at all

your giving us no real info to help you diagnose it online. if you have vagcom or any code reader see what codes you are getting. what tune do you have, does the base file have a low rpm redline, how much boost are you running, do you have a boost controller, have logs, etc etc etc. give us more info please and we can see what we can do to help

Base file from fellow member, 600cc injectors. Stock maf, peak 24psi tapers to 22. Plugs are all black with fuel/ oil. I think it just flat out needs a legit tune and more work. I thought she would he legit for a while but I know it needs to get on the rollers and get dialed in. Misfire on all cylinders says vag.

Bryan is absolutely one of the best in the Business. I'd log the car yourself before taking it there. I woud check w plugs first. Run a smaller gap .024 seems to be the fix. Run the cheap copper 4644 Ngk's I haven't read any of the replies above. But it is where I would start.


The car obviously has issues and most likely not the base file making your car run like shit. If I were in town we could log the car.

the purpose of the base file was so i could just get her home until i could snage a trailer and get tuned, it ran fine on the way home so i stopped by my dads to show off a bit, thats karma for ya. and then yeah by the time i got home shit was junk,oh well better it running rich than lean i say. needs a legit tune plane and simple, thanks for all the help guys

Stock maf with 605s and 600cc and WOTing? Are you insane? I wouldn't be surprised if you run 20:1 afr up top and possibly damaged something due to knocking.

You are running a random file from a fellow member, with 600cc?? (you mean 630?), and a Stock MAF with 24psi on Tial 605???

Think you answered all of your questions right there.

Julex is completely right; WOT with that setup in 5th gear could cause serious damage.

You really need a 85mm MAF for 605's. Get that car to Autosport Werks and bring your check book. You will need to buy a fueling kit from EPL.

alright im sorry, you guys are too easy to jack up, i knew the stock maf would get everyone worked up so i couldnt resist. it is a 85mm maf and i thought the injectors were 600 but i guess trheir 630's. no as far as the tune is concerned i bought from a fellow member that said he ran with his 605 kit, in fact the entire fueling kit he ran with his setup. i kinow i should have done more research on the tune but i just wanted to get her home and honestly couldnt resist a few punches. dumb i know. all spark plugs were black as could be, i replaced them with ngk4644 and she purs, i didnt drive her just started up and let warm up in my garage without a single hiccup. waiting for tune time.
