    two (hopefully) quick things

    thing 1:
well, i finally got tired of hitting the coiled power cord to my valentine every time i shift into fifth or reverse. i started to hardwire it using the sunroof switch method (getting that ground wire hooked up was a pain!). everything has power when testing, and i presently have the adapter stuffed under the headliner. it'll be secured using the double-sided tape once the rest of the wiring is finished. the issue is that the wire hooking the detector to the adapter somehow has to be passed under the headliner. looking at the front seam of the headliner, there is a small notch to pass the wiring through. the issue is how the hell do i get the damn thing through? even with pulling the front of the headliner down a bit, there's still other material that's in the way. the best i could thing was to slip some craft wire through and use it to pull the power wire through. that failed, probably because i didn't loop the craft wire around the power wire firmly enough. thoughts on a method that'll keep my sane and won't tire out my shoulders?

    thing 2:
i'm still annoyed with my shifter feeling notchy (basically a pop-pop feel when going into second and sometimes fourth and fifth). what i'm noticing now is that i can feel and see the shifter move back and forth when feathering the throttle in fifth gear. i can also feel it move when depressing and releasing the clutch. i'm guessing there's a correlation here this would be okay if the shifter were part of the gearbox, but - of course - it isn't. what i've seen in a few really old threads is that upgrading the snub mount and/or gearbox mounts could eliminate this motion. i'm tempted by the b5 rs4 mounts and poly snub mount from pure motorsport. thoughts here too?

yes, i know i ask simple questions with tons of words. the more math i learn, the more english i forget to make room for it.>_>

Access the roof wiring via some other route like from the A pillar. The engine/trans mount/s may be toast, otherwise, the shifter linkage needs to be readjusted carefully, including replacing the linkage bushings to eliminate wear in the linkage, to minimize and/or correct the notchy shifting feel. A good short throw shifter kit should address any shifter linkage issues as well.

why the a-pillar? i've already got a power source and a ground at the sunroof controls. it's just a matter of getting the wire through the headliner to that spot.

push the headliner down from the inside a little, it will be enough to push the wire through

looks like i'll give it another try tomorrow then. i think by the time i got to passing the wire through, my shoulders were too tired from fighting the ground bolt. after that, i'll just need to find some way of securing the extra wires to prevent any and all rattling.

oh, and gear changes this morning. -clunk-clunk- second. -clunk-clunk- third. that's what it felt like. sure, the transmission shifts hard when cold, but the sensation almost reminded me of the noise my saab's suspenion made on cold days when the rubber bushings had shrunk. it was actually pretty amusing.

looks like i'm running wiring down to the fusebox now. you'd think it'd be a pain to run wiring down the a-pillar, but it now seems like it'll be nothing compared to trying to slip it under that damn headliner.
