Question 2001 audi A4 Quattro auto transmission problems with reverse. need help please.

hello, I have a 01 A4 Quattro w/ an auto tranny (tiptronic) and i'm having some issues when i put it in reverse. When the car is cold, tranny works perfectly, but as soon as it heats up, when i put it in reverse it doesn't always move. it seems like it engaged, but than i press the accelarator and it doesn't move. it makes no noise and it just feels like its not engaged. there's a set point that as soon as i put it on "R" and i accelerate the car harder it engages and goes. Does anyone know if it could be a solenoid issue or anything like that? are the solenoids outside or inside on the transmission? Moving forward the car moves and shifts perfectly. Any input on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Solenoids are inside the box. Auto transmissions are extremely complex, and in turn are extremely difficult to diagnose and repair. I do all kinds of repair work with Audi/VW but I won't touch an autobox. You should take it to a transmisison shop that's is familiar with them.

Does the dash reflect the shift to reverse properly (gear position indicator), and do the reverse lights come on? Any dampness near the front passenger's feet? How about fluid level?

Very, very first thing to do is scan for codes with vag-com.

Very next thing to do is 5MT swap that pig...like it's your job.

Did this ever get resolved? I'm having the same issue with my 2000 A4 tiptronic automatic transmission. The shop I took the car to said I probably need a new transmission but didn't seem like they actually looked very far into the issue. They quoted me at $3000 for a used/rebuilt transmission plus and the labor cost included in that price. If I can find a more precise, cheaper fix from anyone here, it'd be much appreciated. Thank you!

How much would that generally run cost wise? I couldn't do it myself so I assume the labor would be insanely expensive.

I sold it before i fixed it. I dont actually think its the transmission. I think its electronic. I one day was messing with it and forgot the maf unplugged and it worked fine but obviously ran like crap, so when i plugged the maf back in, problem came back. I know its crazy but try it...and if you find out, please let me know. Id like to know what the problem is. Rob
