    2.0T Oil Consumption Poll

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, I just wanted to get an idea of how often you guys are adding oil to your engines.

I know that burning oil was one of the downsides to 2.0's but wanted to see what others were experiencing.

I purchased my car at 34,000 miles and have recently hit 41,000 miles and I am adding one quart of oil every 3-3.5k miles.

How often are you guys adding oil?

I normally do 1 quart every 5k miles and always keep a spare quart in the trunk.

I add 1 quart at 4k miles and change the oil at 5k miles. 90% city driving so it doesn't seem too bad to me.

i havnt owned my b7 long enough to choose an option in the poll, but the previous owner said hes never owned a car that goes through oil so much. he was on the 10,000 mile oil change interval though. i will 100% NOT be going more than 5,000 miles without oil changes. i dont care what anyone says, thats just pain dumb. especially after owning a b6 with the sludge problems...keeps you on your toes.

Audi just put a new set of rings in my CPO B7 @30k. I haven't had the car very long and was going through oil like crazy. Now, hopefully this will do the trick. I wish I had done more homework before buying this car!

Mine is the same way. I do 10k change intervals and I never see any appreciable oil level drop.
I'm thoroughly convinced my built to order B7 was 1. Not abused because it never sat on the lot and 2. Broken in properly.

I voeted for only when I get an oil change, and i have never collected anything in my can yet over 4 weeks.

Well I have a catch can but its the 034 one so shouldn't effect oil levels since it recirculates.

I always keep a quart of Mobil 1 0-40W in the trunk and add it within the 10K (Audicare) interval. Mine doesn't burn oil but consumes a little more than average compared to my other car.

I only ad about 1/3 of a quart between oil changes (every 5k miles). About 1 quart every 15k miles. Always have an extra quart in the trunk.

I can run the entire summer with no additional oil betwen changes (5k miles). In the winter, it's 1qt every 2,500 miles. Keep a quart in my trunk at all times.

Check your oil each time you fill up, especially in the winter.

The 2.0 must only burn oil was modified, correct? If not I must be lucky, mine doesnt burn a single drop between oil changes. I change my oil every 5k and check my oil level once a week when I wash the car.

I debated whether or not to include something involving a catch can, but I don't have one and wanted to keep the poll simple.

I also have never had to add any oil at all between changes, and I check it once every week to two weeks. I dont have a catch can, but do have a PCV block off. But I do 3k-4k oil changes, rather be on the cautious side then the sorry side

Before I had engine changed @ 98K to new Long Block and all I would burn oil every 1500-2200 miles. With new Long Block NO OIL burned at all and the only time it's added is during oil change.

Kickin' this back to the top to see if I can get some more votes.

On a side note, when I originally started this poll I thought I was only burning 1 quart per 3000 miles, I am actually burning 1 quart per 1000 miles.

I'm at about 98k on my B7, bought it with 80k on it. I do 5K intervals for my oil changes. I have been stage 1 Revo with a testpipe for about 15k now. When it was stock, it used less than half a quart every 5K miles. Now being modified and driven harder I usually need a half to full quart around 4K miles in. If I go easy on the car it uses a tad bit less.

Working for a vw dealer I will say at least 75% of the fsi turbo cars we've seen roll thru the shop since 2006 use around a half a quart in between 5K services, both stock and modified. That seems acceptable to me for a turbo vehicle.

I'm at a little over 55k miles on my car and had oil consumption in the past, but now don't.

I had Audi Care for the first 45k miles, so I was always taking it to the dealer to get my oil change. They were using Castrol 5W-40. I was getting the oil changed every 10k miles. My oil light would come on almost every 5k miles and I would have to add almost 2 quarts of oil at times.

Now that I change my own oil, I've been using Lubo Moly 5W-40 and changing the oil every 7k miles. The light never comes on and when I check the oil, it's only maybe half a quart short.
Is there a possibility that using "higher quality" oil has gotten rid of my consumption issue?

I checked my oil 700mi after my last oil change and added 0.5 quarts.

Im curious about how much adding oil between oil changes affects what interval you should use for changes. If I add 2-2.5 quarts every change, should I still go 5k between changes?

I noticed that even after adding almost 2 quarts, when I got my oil changed, it was still just black. If it were me, even after adding oil, I would still change it every 5k miles, or you could bump up the interval to about 7k miles.

I have 58k miles and change mine every 5k, I have never added oil between changes. Most of my trips are less than 30 minutes in duration and involve a mix of highway and city driving, does the car tend to burn more oil on long high speed trips or short city trips? Sounds like everyone's experience is different so maybe there isn't one answer to this question.

Before the catch-can I was looking at ~ 1qt for every 1000 miles driven. After the catch-can I haven't had to add a drop.

I would be curious if the type/brand of oil makes a difference or weight (ie 5/30, 5/40, 0/40). Saw on another thread Shell T6 didn't burn much compared to Castro or something. Even though they meet Audi's spec, there could be a lot of variation in it.

I'm running M1 05w40 seems to be a little better than what the dealer used as far as not getting the low oil light. But the dealer's oil was also in the summer months

When I was running my PCV block-off:

0 per 0 on both Motul and Rotella T6

I wanted to get a free PCV since mine was shot and wanted to try the "OEM" way:

so far i've burned up about half a quart on my 2050km road trip last week, all highway.

I am 100% confident that my piston rings are fine, i am not burning oil, I am consuming it through the shoddy intake/crankcase system.

I top off with GC 0w30
