    Clunk at driveway speeds

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi,

Ever since i got the car i get clunking noise, like someone hitting empty cans, when i go
over even the tiniest bump when backing out of the garage, or turning when parking.

I looked under the car, nothing obvious.

I put up with it until now, but a friend commented on it when i was pulling out of a restaurant lot.

Any ideas what to look for? VAG-Com all modules OK. Occasionally when i really floor it i will get
    the ESP light.

I did Google this but no good answers.

I have the same thing, sounds like the exhaust clunking against something. No idea what it actually is.

Same thing. Sounds like my drivers front suspension is literally going to fall apart at any moment.

Does it happen when backing up in a straight line or only when turning at wheel lock?

All low speed situations, regardless of straight line or turning.

i narrowed it down to the play in stock control arms...they need to warm up a bit and it should go away...

it took me forever to pinpoint it

    Stock too here.

Big sigh of relief! At least I am not alone.

Basically i have a 1/2" gradient as I back out
of the garage, and as soon as the car hits that
i hear the clunk in a straight line, then again as
i do a 3-point turn to line it up with the driveway
    avoiding the babysitter's car.

Thank you guys. I hope to post on my Xoom
carputer install soon. In the meantime i keep
grinning a lot driving this car, i even managed to
keep up with my friend's IS-F on an uphill straight,
the tailwagging did him in, Quattro rulz!
