1996 Audi c4 a6 quattro station wagon rear brakes odd wear

I was actually just given this vehicle last Friday and starting this past Tuesday I started hearing the metal on metal grind from pad to rotor. I took the wheel and caliper off and the front pad is still in good shape while the rear is completely gone. I was thinking the piston might be locked out and when I tried to drive the piston back with a c clamp I thought it had been proven but looking at the forums have noticed that the piston has to be turned while retracting but that some had luck with the same style clamp. I'm all for getting the kit to retract the piston if that will fix it but that doesn't seem to explain the fact the front pad still has a lot of life while the rear is long dead. Any help would be appreciated. I'm a single father finishing my math degree which necessitated I go part time at work so trying to do this myself as cheaply as possible and want to make certain I'm not just putting band aids on things.
    Thank you.

Check for a kinked brake hose or you could possibly have a frozen caliper.
