The front filler plate makes a big difference by giving it a clean look. Nice job.

You are going to love Whispbar, I've had them on my avant for the past two years and had no issues at all.

Word of advice, keep your plate under your front passenger mat and put it in your front window any time you park in PDX, the parking people can and will give you a fat ticket for not displaying it. Also throw it up there if you see the red n' blues before you pull over, saved me from a ticket twice in my wife's car with a filler plate.

I really like how the black Whispbar feet flow into the black roof rails. Looks great!

Good point. I wonder if it would make sense to Plasti-Dip the cross bars since you don't have any chrome parts.

vtheman - you have a point and apparently I agree, that's next. Also I think I am going to vinyl the roof black now inside the rails, deleting on the inside lines of the roof spoiler.

Sorry I didn't take photos with them before the box went on but they seriously look like part of the car.

Thule 686BXT Atlantis 1600 Black - Whispbar Plasti-Dip matte black. Sorry it was a little wet and nasty not to mention car is filthy. The guys at Rack Attack saw the racks after I dipped them and thought they were OEM, didn't realize they were even Whispbar as I painted the logos in too. For my first attempt I am really proud of them and how they turned out. I need to also mention I originally bought the Inno Shadow 15 (day before). It didn't seem to flow with the lines of the car (bit of a door wedge look) also I noticed about an hour after installed there was a 2 inch crack on the lid. Took it back to Rack Attack and luckily the next day the Thule was back in stock so they swapped.

Looks black, lol. Why did you dip the BLACK plastic parts? Did you pull the rubber inserts out before dipping? Sorry about all the questions, I am planning to dip mine, just the aluminum parts.

I didn't dip any plastic at all, only did the aluminum and hardware. All the plastic and rubber was taped, plastic covers were put aside. I sprayed just the inset where the logos were with an automotive matte black paint and taped the rest of the covers off.

Apparently it has been around for quite a while now. I bought them from ORS Rack they were on sale free shipping too I think at the time. Not sure what year your Avant is but use this http://www.yakima.com/whispbar/

These racks are so versatile that they will virtually fit any car, one size fits all. You'll need an adapter for your car.
Thing to watch our are: Self tapping screws that attach an adapter to racks must not be overtightened otherwise they'll get loose and fall out, carriage bolts tend to rust even thou they are galvanized (mine did in 2 years) but not to worry, now that Yakima owns it I believe you get a lifetime warranty with it. They just sent me all 4 carriage bolts without hassle. Other than that I am very happy with them. Aesthetically they are the best looking out there.

Does anyone know the fitment needed for the whispbars on a b8 avant? I just spoke with rack attack and they say there is no fitments available for our cars but the pictures above make me think otherwise.

How about the main bars themselves? When you go to the Yakima site and do their little wizard thing, it comes up and says that nothing fits the A4 Avant (2009-12). Would be great if you could give us the exact part numbers you used to get this clean setup. We know it's the K421 Fit Kit, but what exact main "flush" bar is that? (the non-thru version)

    Thanks
