chattery valves a cause for concern?

i guess i just might be paranoid and making things up... seems like my b7 s4 has gotten a little bit louder at idle... just had oil changed... no check engine or epc lights, mechanic said everything looked fine...

i mean it doesnt sound like a cummins turbo diesel but there is definately a noticeable tick tick tick tick tick that follows the rpms until about 1500... settles down a bit once its warmed up but is still noticeable, sounds like noisey valves/rockers etc... no loss in power or hesitation during acceleration

any cause for concern or should i just turn up the radio?

please dont flame me i did a search

DO you know what type of oil was used and what weight it was?

If the oil is not the problem, I suggest changing the plugs. Mine used to be clanky at idle and now with fresh plugs, all you hear is the exhaust hum

M1 0w-30 is one of their "Advanced Fuel Economy" oils. That means it's very thin which could probably cause excess noise (and wear).

Run M1 0w-40, or step up to my favorite, Motul 8100 x-cess

Try a PAO-heavier oil if you think it's the valves.

PS: I don't think it's valves. Sounds like exhaust and/or vacuum leak.

I run OE-style 4 lash NGK platinums. Testing done by JHM and their own experience suggest that 4-lash plugs work best for this car. A few people think that it's just a gimmick that makes the plug last longer, but not in the case of this motor.
