There doesn't seem to be a 40 dollar solution. 100 maybe. As someone else said... Purchased online. Shipped. No work to pick apart a cable. Well worth it. I get it tomorrow. I will try too post of video of it and will absolutely give everyone a review.

It works well folks. If you were nervous about forking over the dough... this is my installation experience. I have nothing to do with the people who sell this. I came to this forum to try to solve the problem of streaming and saw a lot of other people are trying to do the same. This is the link of where I bought it. http://audia2dp.weebly.com/index.html

As noted by others..... 1.) You cannot change songs through the MMI... only via Iphone. 2.) Volume control is fine through the MMI. 3.) Sound quality is very very good... I wouldn't say perfect. 4.) What you are really paying for is the cable that comes with the Belkin unit.

    Cheers.

Got mine. Works as advertised. Plug, pair, play. Good sound quality (not as good as direct connect) but SO convenient. No issues with having to stop iPod songs playing and pressing play multiple times to get pandora/rdio to work. It just works like one would expect. Who wants to control via mmi anyway? They are selling a Belkin BT adaptor and a cable with 3.5 mm jack and power. Very nice quality cable.

It works but doesn't automatically reconnect. Still totally worth it since I really wanted it for Pandora and I gotta start the program anyways, whats 2 extra swipes to reconnect the Bluetooth.

in all honesty that's crap man. I can tel you that the Blakberry gateway connects automatically as it should normally work. No need for you to be swiping away to reconnect when you just spent $150 on the unit.

Finished my cable tonight. It sounds just like the iPod did with the same song playing over 192kbps Pandora. Now I don't have to tether anymore.

I started with the belkin but having to manually pair my phone to it every time I wanted to use BT was annoying. Got the blackberry and it pairs automatically. Had to splice in the usb connection for BB power since belkin was different.

I was wondering about that $150 pre-made product. But since you replied, can you elaborate on the splicing part? did you splice the power wires from a MMI stereo cable? If so, is there a way to quickly identify them so I don't have to go through the same trial and error?

Yea manually pairing my phone with the Belkin unit is starting to get old and annoying.
I would not recommend the kit unless the guy who makes this kit substitutes the Belkin in his kit for something that has active auto pairing.
How hard was it to modify the cable? I think I will try the black berry one if the splicing isn't difficult.

Do the HS3000 I'm telling you it is amazing. I sent a message to BobMugabe about how to do it from scratch but forgot to save the sent message. Hopefully he chimes in. I would also be more than happy to do it for other is they don't mind paying some shipping.

The whole project took me about 20-30 minutes (I tested individual parts of it as I did it).

Id be more than happy to pay you an honest fee for the inconvenience of making me a cable. I'd fell like I am taking advantage of you otherwise. Do you need the cable I received with the Belkin kit? Another cable?

Oh with what they have you might be able to just swap out the belkin unit with an HS3000. I wouldn't want you to waste the time or money on having me make you one. I got my HS3000 from newegg for like $24 shipped and it just has a micro-usb for power and 3.5mm jack for sound. It also supports apt-x(384kbit/s audio for stereo) if you phone supports it. if you can just unplug those from your unit you can probably get away with replacing the belkin with the samsung unit without any modification. If that's not the case I can make it work with that existing cable(99% sure). I will post a picture of mine tomorrow.

Unfortunately its not that easy. The Belkin uses an unusually thin, needle like female power plug. I would need a cable with a micro usb plug for power. I would have to splice in something from a micro usb power adapter and that's something I want to avoid doing. I would rather just buy a nice, pre-made cable or at least a well made spliced cable.

Oh that sucks :-/. Hope your soldering skills are up there, just kidding it's super easy. I soldered and heat shrank my splices.

How hard was it to modify the cable? I think I will try the black berry one if the splicing isn't difficult.
It was not hard. First plugged USB charger from blackberry in to my computer, then headphones into BB. Paired with phone to verify it worked.

Cut in the middle of the cable because I didn't feel like taking the connector apart again.

Cut and separate both wires. Save RED and BLACK from USB side. Cut white, green and insulation inside the USB cable off short.

Next I wanted to verify I had the correct connection before soldering so I gently twisted RED usb to WHITE STRIPE belkin and held together with electrical tape. Same with Black to Black. Plug in to car and verify it works. If not, you can reverse them and try again. It's been a while since I did this so I can't remember for sure which way it goes so make sure you don't skip this step!

Once confirmed, remove tape, untwist. Put a few pieces of heat shrink tubing on (on small to cover each solder joint individually then one or two larger ones to go over those and the junction of the two cables.

Solder wires: Black to Black. Red to White stripe. Again, make sure you verified it works this way.
Used one of these I bought cheap from Fry's with my heat gun and shrink tubing.

Not the prettiest solution but it stays in the glove box so who cares. If you are really worried about aesthetics then you will need to take the connector apart to connect directly to pins inside (pain in the arse as far as I'm concerned).

Well, if it doesn't automatically pair, I'd say I'm going to build my own. I think I'll give the HS3000 a try that QSonx is talking about.

I'm confused as to which MMI cable you're using here. Is it not the MMI to 3.55mm one?

QSonx's the man, here's his message to me which looks to be a great consolidated guide. Thanks, man!

I'm looking forward to his finished guide for making the HS3000 turn on and off with the car, then it'll be the go-to solution (not that it isn't right now).

Time to get handy with a soldering iron.

    Enjoy.

But they didn't do what I wanted so I used the pin-out diagram from the next page.

    http://www.a5oc.com/forums/a5-s5-top...tml#post157083

Pins 1,2, and 3 are used for the 3.5mm jack and pins 25 and 28 are used for the usb power.

    Put a 1k ohm resistor (http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...uctId=2062343#) between pins 21 and 22.

All the other pins for the ipod can just be cut. And they will be cut on both sides.
The important thing is to be careful removing the pins and disassembling the housing. Just follow the instructions from the first link I gave you for disassemble.

Now for the other side you need to cut off the dock connector. Trim all the wires except for the 3 in the foil and the black and red wire outside of the foil.

The Black and Red wires outside of the foil will be soldered with the micro-usb cable for the HS3000.(I used the charger cable that came with it.)
The three wires inside the foil are the actual audio cables. The black one inside the foil is the ground wire. Match the other two up with a 3.5mm audio connector that will be used to plug into the HS3000(I had a higher quality 3.5mm cable laying around).

I soldered all the connections, taped up the individual wires, then heat shrank it all. The HS3000 is already in pairing mode when you turn it on for the first time and the GNEX will find it fast and automatically connect to it.

I haven't finished everything but I plan to open up the HS3000 to force it to not use it's internal battery and only turn on and off with the car. It definitely auto connects when I turn on BT on the phone (1-2 seconds).

So far I've tested it with Spotify, Pandora, Google Music, and the built in media player.

Actually I hadn't read the instructions on the other forum up to this point so it makes sense now. However, I'm still not sure if this works on a system without navigation or not.

Use the ipod mmi cable cause it has both 3.5mm and usb power already in the pins.

This guide is mostly from w.ashcroft on a5oc.com
As requested, here is a short guide to modifying the iPod AMI Cable:
    (click pictures for larger versions)

    1) The hardest part is opening up the AMI connector, I found that twisting a nylon bojo/prying tool at the side of the connector released at least one retaining clip allowing you to work your way around to carefully release the others.

    2) Once the cap is fully unclipped, the plastic body simply slides off.

    3) Now you can open up the connector, the two pieces of metal casing easily separate to reveal the wiring.

    4) On the left you can see the "detection" resistor loop (resistor contained within the black tubing), along with power supply wires, iPod/USB data wires in the middle and audio wires on the right.

    5) Disconnect all six iPod/USB data wires in the middle by either cutting them or removing them from the connector - to remove them from the connector you will need to use something like a needle to press on the pins to release them; either way ensure they are disconnected and are safely insulated from one another to prevent iPod damage.

It is necessary to disconnect these wires so that the MMI/AMI system isn't confused by having an iPod (or accessory) connected but detection resistor telling it otherwise and vice versa to prevent the iPod from getting confused.

    6) Finally the resistor loop needs some attention, this resistor needs to be changed from 18.7KΩ (iPod) to 1KΩ (3.5mm stereo) since the resistance indicates to the MMI/AMI system which type of cable is connected - simply cut out the existing resistor and connect in the new resistor (e.g. solder it in), or you could remove the loop pins from the connector and connect the new resistor directly to the pins and reinsert pins.

    7) That's it! Tuck all the wires back into the metal casing and reverse the cable disassembly to put/clip everything back together.
Pin-outs for the cable itself ( I color coded and bolded the ones you keep)

    1 - Audio in, left-side (low frequency)
    2 - Audio in, right-side (low frequency)
    3 - Low frequency earth
4 - NF in, screen earth (low frequency)

    13 - iPod data
    14 - iPod data
    16 - iPod detected
    17 - USB data (+)
    18 - USB data (–)
    21 - Detect (Resistor)
    22 - Earth (Resistor)

    24 - FBAS wire (–)
    25 - USB (earth)
    27 - FBAS wire (+)
    28 - USB (+5V)
Honestly I can't remember for sure if you need to keep #4 in there but it is better safe than sorry.

Now that the MMI side of the cable is complete you need to work on the other side. (next post)

Part 2. iPod side of the cable.
Read through all these before doing them to make sure you have heat shrink on the cables before making the soldered connections.

1.) I cut the cable about 1" away from the connector to give me room if I messed up.
1.1) Do this also to both your micro/mini usb cable and headphone wire(3.5mm jack side)
2.) Strip the outer jacket(1-1/4") and you will be presented with the electric ground from the iPod to MMI (I trimmed this completely down).
2.1) Strip the outer jacket to both your micro/mini usb cable and headphone wire(3.5mm jack side) BE SURE TO NOT TRIM THE UNCOVERED WIRE IN THE HEADPHONE JACK
3.) Remove all the wires except those inside the copper colored shielding and the red and black wires outside of it.
    * Shielded is the the audio
    * Red/Black unshielded is the usb power.
4.) Strip the remaining wires (1/4").

5.) USB Power is simple Red to Red and Black to Black (Unshielded wire pair)
    * Solder and put electrical tape then heat shrink.

    Audio Section.(Copper color shielding)
6.) Solder White headphone wire to pinout #1 which was the Orange wire for me.
7.) Solder Red headphone wire to pinout #2 which is the Red wire.
8.) Twist up the loose silver or copper colored wire from your headphone hack.
9.) Solder this to to pinout #3 which is the Black wire.
10.) Tape up all connections and heatshrink for a clearner look.

I put a large heat shrink tube around the MMI side and put both the micro-usb and 3.5mm jack inside another large one. I also placed two smaller heat shrink tubes around each of them.

Sorry I don't have pictures of the final steps cause I already finished it and didn't think to do a write up. I'm sorry guys.

Only if you have the AMI port, I believe.

I do, but my understanding was that the models without NAV lose power on the port after a short while.

I don't believe that's the case. My car does not have Nav, and I am using an iPod extension cable plugged into the iPod MMI cable from the AMI port, and my phone is always charging.

I meant more along the lines of running the extension cable to the armrest so I could plug in my iPhone to the AMI and charge it to. Best audio quality and full controls through the Nav.

So what exactly did you make? I must have missed something because I didn't see a post describing what you planned to build.

My understanding is that you purchased a Samsung HS3000 Bluetooth Stereo Headset and connected it to the iPod AMI connector cable. Does the audio go out through this cable and power come in?

If I were to look into your glove box, what would I see?

If you have a car without nav, then you have the MMI 2G version. They have a factory accessory available.

This discussion is for people with MMI 3G (with nav) to get bluetooth audio streaming (A2DP) profile to work.

So I finally bit the bullet and ordered the parts to make the cable as described above. There was a sale on newegg.com that included the belkin a2dp receiver for $35 and I got a cable from ebay for $25. Time now to splice and dice. Will let you guys know of the outcome.

That thing doesn't work - not even on non-nav systems. I went to my dealer and tried it out for myself on my non-nav 2011, the MMI would display some setup information, but it would hang up and not complete.
