From what I've seen, you're better off with K04/RS6

Get it straight, there are K03/K16's. As for the K04's there are K04/RS6's, K04/24 Hybrids. Ive yet to hear of someone making K04/K16's.

From Buehn Enginering its $550 per turbo to upgrade from K04 to K04/RS6 plus $250 per turbo if they are used and need to be rebuilt.

Its not worth the hassle of going homebrew unless you really know what your doing and are ready for some problems.

Why not just get straight K04s, tried and proven. Do you really need more than 400+HP?

What does homebrew have to do with turbo selection? Homebrew refers to the tuning. You can run a homebrew setup with straight k04's or hybrids.

I have done a few turbo upgrades, and i know sometimes its little bit harder(alot of $) to get them running properly then what people think. Since he was looking at birds, i just assumed he would be homebrewing.

Go with plain jane k04's if you are trying to save some money.

fyi.... there was a turbo called the k04/k16 v2... jacob at one point made these but since has stopped as his k03/k16 were making about the same power .. the v2 meant that they were in a k03 housing.... i hope that clears things up..

I'm running k04/k16s from Jacob. There are quite a few guys running these turbos but the K04/RS6 makes a little bit more power from the graphs that I have seen compared to mine. My car is making 400whp 420wtq with EPLs' 93 octane custom tune. I'm in the process of switching out my POS IPP Intercoolers for a ASP FMIC to get the most out of them.

With the high labor cost associated with replacing turbos in our cars, you're advising him to get straight "used" k04s and be done with it???

500 to the wheels is a stretch.. Best bet would be to use k04/rs6 hybrids and get a custom tune, or try to tune it yourself. MY guess is youll need race gas and open downpipes to make that power.

My IAT temp delta is just rediculous, 40 degree difference from 2k rpm to redline. LI-S4 tested the IPP ICs vs RS4 vs Stock and found out that the IPPs are worst than stock.

in fairness to EPL, my car put down 397 on their mustang dyno, 392 on arfabrication dynojet and 400 on pro-motion tuning dynojet. Figures mentioned are all whp. I'm aware of different settings, temp, etc but it's pretty much in-line with what's out there.

The car is here on the east coast. Older guy, and i doubt he is interested in a street race, i dont even think he drags the car. It is built for road racing. Real nice guy, i have spoken with him before.

He goes by either k04/k16north or k04/rs6north on audiworld. Im sure he has threads with dyno sheets and all. Beleieve me i know it sounds like a stretch..
