i got the hub rings i needed today to test fit them. they're damn near perfect without spacers. i just need to get the lug holes drilled out to 14mm and get new tires for the rear because the guy i bought them from apparently decided to do a sweet sweet burnout before he took them off, they're down to the belts.

thanks, having a second car definitely makes it a lot easier. i actually think i'm more excited to get this on the road so i can work on the allroad more then i am to actually have the car itself

Its better then having him sell you them with 2 of the wheels bent, and 2 bad tires. What is the specs on those? et 35? My rs4's are et 35 and sit very nice with no spacers.

progress has pretty much been moving at a snails pace on this... but i did a little tinkering on the a4 today.

started off with getting the AC compressor, turbo, down pipe, and an 034 3" test pipe all mounted up.

and yes, i know the exhaust manifold is missing a bolt. i couldn't find the last one after digging through all my parts boxes. i'll just have to get another one.

and i whipped up an oil cooler setup i had bought for my allroad but the cooler was too big to fit where i wanted on it. so while i had easy access to everything i threw it on here.

    that's it for now.
i'm just waiting for my intercooler to get here, and i'll throw the core support on and hopefully fire this bastard up!

It's funny to think that you have two of those turbos on you AR. I was wondering if I'd ever seen a build thread on this car.

What's the purpose of the a4? Is it going to be a track car like you had talked about before or just a second vehicle?

I know the ar has plenty of goodies that have been waiting years to go in...............................................

    sweeett.

hopefully that oil cooler doesn't get in the way of you IC piping. Its a pretty tight fit over there.

Just a heads up. I used to think that is how you are to properly install a separate oil cooler also, till I stumbled upon this little gem.

so i have the core support installed, and my intercooler setup is on, but i need to either adjust or remake the drivers side pipe. currently it doesn't clear the headlight. the car runs, but it's rough. i still need to get a MAP sensor flange welded onto my intercooler piping, so i'm hoping that's the issue.

as of right now, it's super close but it clears by about a quarter inch. i have to adjust the piping, but it should move further away, so it should still be good.

that was initially how i thought it was supposed to be installed. but, my friend (Michael66899) explained it to me like this. the coolant warms up before the oil, and as it does it aids in in warming the oil up to operating temperature faster. it makes sense to me, so i'll go with it and leave it as is. the sandwich plate is thermostatic, so it only opens when the oil temp goes above like 185 so it won't be open all the time. plus if the plate ever fails i don't want to be stranded with an overheating car.

Sounds good. I have a Mocal thermostatic setup, but have not installed it yet. Going to do a little more research before install, to see which way would really be the best bet. But having the stock oil cooler for a fail safe is def a smart move.

ok, so time for an update.

like i said, i haven't been working on the a4 much. but some progress has been made. i moved the car down to my main driveway so it would be easier to work on, but it seems like less is getting done on it

i had a new snub mount, and a few miscellaneous things come in from 034, so i could throw the core support on and get to work on the front mount.

    snub mount bracket on loose.

i had to shave the actual snub down a little bit so i could get it to slide in and out of the bracket easily.

    all mocked up.

got the core support mounted up, and everything hooked up.

the oil cooler juuuust barely clears... i totally planned that

the core all cleaned up, and mounted. it was painted black when i got it.

i was at a standstill until my piping kit came in.. so i took some time and finish bolting up my test pipe.

right when i was finishing up the UPS man showed up with a big box

    pipes! yay.

so i got to work, slicing and dicing some pipes.

    drivers side all done.

    passenger side pipe.

    diverter valve stuffed up there.

i stuffed an AEM filter on the maf, and dumped in some fluids to wrap up the day

and that's why i spent the extra money on a good engine

Looking very clean mate, well done.

What front bar are you going to run?

Are there plans of BAT/BT in the near future (hence the oil cooler?)?

why thank you! right now, the eventual plan is a 6758 EFR setup.

do you mean the front rebar behind the bumper? i'll just notch the stock one out.

the engine is built with scat rods, JE pistons, and supertech valvetrain.

i'll be running an s4 bumper, and just modify the rebar to fit over the intercooler.

We will more or less have the same engine minus pistons (since my AEB ones were fine).

Look forward to more progress, if you find another S4 bar, swing it my way down under :P

That FMIC bracket looks dead on mine, plain and simple and does the job. What piping kit did you use? I see where you kept the stock piping for the snub mount. I actually cut the ends off mine that mount to the frame rails and threw the rest out, hope I didnt mess up there by doing so.

I just got a universal kit off eBay and made my own pipes. Jon sent pipes, but they were for a different turbo setup.

I agree about the bracket, you don't need much just keep it simple and clean. I was pretty happy when I got it. I just had to put a couple bends so it wraps around the ac condensor, and painted it black.

    Unhappy

i suppose it's time to update this bitch..

honestly i haven't been making much progress on the car due to work, and some shitty weather we've been having. three weeks ago this is what my driveway looked like

a couple weeks ago i had a day where the weather wasn't too bad, so i put in some time installing an RNS-D i got out of the classifieds. i got everything installed. but i'm still waiting on a harness to get here from Kufatec in England. it's going on five weeks now...

the same day I did a little work on my wheels drilling out the lug holes from 12mm to 14mm, and put in some new center caps

the tires that came on them are about as fucked as a tire can get

i managed to finish getting everything ready to fire up the engine for the first time, but upon the initial start up i found out the MAF was bad so it was running a little rough. i ordered a new MAf from ECS the same night, but it took a ridiculous 28 days to get here!

while i was waiting on parts i rigged up a new power steering cooler so i could get it off the ground. all i did was weld a couple new tabs onto my front mount bracket, and extend the stock hoses up to it. i wanted it mounted this way so i didn't have it permanently mounted to my ac condenser, just in case i need remove it for any maintenance.

    and that's really all i've done ...

    until now!

finally we've had a streak of some decent weather, AND I have a few days off work. so hopefully i can get some things wrapped up on this the next few days.

so heres everything i have planned for the next few days!

Vogland GT3 coilovers w/034 density line strut mounts
    s4 brakes w/JHM LW rotors
    034 density control arms
USP metal slave cylinder and stainless line
    new tires
    black s4 headliner
    new window cowl
    and other misc. maintenance stuff

yesterday J Ozzie came down from BC so i could help him change out his front axles, and tie rod ends. so instead of starting in on anything major, i just did a little maintenance, and general tinkering.

i started out with changing out my busted window cowl, and throwing on some Bosch Icons.

painted my valve cover olive green, and tossed on an 034 coil cover.

other then that, i just got the car up on jack stands, and changed the fuel filter after Ozzie left so i could start in on it today.

which brings us to todays activities! time to do some real work now

i started out the day ripping everything off the front suspension i wasn't going to be using. which was... ugh. everything!

i got my coilovers all assembled, with new spring caps and everything. (because that's how i roll )

replaced a bad steering rack boot, tie rod ends, installed the s4 upright, new control arms, and new s4 wheel speed sensors.

for what ever reason i was missing that one control arm
either i lost it, or 034 never sent it with my order but it was still in good shape, so i'm not really worried about it.

and finished up the day putting on my s4 HP2 brakes with ecs lines, and JHM LW rotors i had from my old brakes on the allroad.

and the pile of old shit i took off

hopefully tomorrow i can get the rears on, and the new tires mounted so i can get it down on the ground and set the ride height up.

Looks good. And you need more coolant. Please tell how those Vogtlands ride, once you get your car operational. The GTs were at the top of my list...when they still cost like $1500. Was just too expensive for my blood, and settled on the ST units when they first came out in 09. Price was simply too good to pass up, and quality is better than the ST units being sold now (they revised them).

it's hard to tell... i already had the calipers, rotors, and pads. you need to change the uprights for them to bolt up, and the abs sensors are different. and you might as well do wheel bearing while your at it... see where this is going? so to put it bluntly, more then it's worth.

unless you get everything off a parts car together for a steal it's not worth the trouble when you could just do the TT/A8 upgrade.

i think the radiator has a slow leak

i keep topping off the coolant, but it drains down slowly over time. as of right now, the car runs but it's still rough despite the fact that it isn't throwing a single engine code now. i think it's just due to old gas. i put in five gallons of fresh gas, but it's had a quarter tank sitting in it for over a year now.

realistically if i get the rear suspension done, and the slave cylinder changed out so i can bleed it (bleeder is stripped on the stock one) i should be able to drive the car.

My thought was get s4 brakes for a8/tt price. I feel the s4 brakes are a better upgrade.

they are a better upgrade, with two pistons, more pad contact area, and a larger rotor. but for extra costs associated with the upgrade, some would say it's not worth it.

i keep topping off the coolant, but it drains down slowly over time. as of right now, the car runs but it's still rough despite the fact that it isn't throwing a single engine code now. i think it's just due to old gas. i put in five gallons of fresh gas, but it's had a quarter tank sitting in it for over a year now.
Not to sound unnecessarily alarmist, but if it's running rough is it possible that you've got coolant leaking into a cylinder? It's probably not the case, but maybe consider pulling the plugs and looking into the bore to see if one cylinder looks cleaner than the rest. Kind of hard with only 1500 miles on it. But it's worth a shot. The spark plug tip may be a good indicator as well.

Anyway, it's probably nothing, but it may be worth checking out. Other than that, looks fantastic. Looking forward to the EFR. One other thing to mention, have you considered a Comp turbo? Same bearing structure as the EFR and they have an extended tip compressor as well. The only real difference are that they're externally gated and the turbine isn't Gamma Ti. However they're cheaper, rebuildable and available.

^ I honestly haven't looked into many turbo options yet. i just know i want a quicker spooling setup as this car will be my new DD when i get it going.

and i did confirm that the radiator is the source of my coolant leak today. when i was under the car today tightening up the subframe from yesterday, i spotted a trail of pink crusty coolant on the drivers side end tank.

so heres a quick update. i forgot my camera, so it was all iphone today.

i got the rear coilovers installed pretty easily. (B5's are way easier to install then a C5!)

i didn't mess with the ride height at all, so it's currently just set at whatever they happen to be at after the install. the front is sitting at 24.75", and the rears are at about 25.25".

and i just slapped on the bumper real quick before the game started to see what it'll look like.

i'm going to get my tires mounted on the AMG wheels tomorrow, and set the final ride height.
