    Ynnekdude's C6 A6 3.0T Mod Thread (UPDATED 2-25-12)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I figured I should just create a build thread instead of making a new thread with every mod. Timeline:

    Car purchased June 2009:

Tint and clear bra July 2009:

    18" VMR 708s w/Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3s for winter November 2009:

    Water Pump fails December 2009:

Valentine 1 hardwired and Laser Interceptor Dual Installed November 2010:

Custom Magnaflow X-Piped exhaust installed by Trexturk(does great work) March 2011:

APR 93 Octane tune March 2011:

    "Prime Paddles" installed August 2011:

Stoptech ST-60 355mm BBK installed* by Trexturk August 2011:

Also detailed the car and applied Aquartz Titanium which I bought from Detailer's Domain:

*Matching rear rotors and pads are on their way. They should be arriving today. Skyler@Achtuning has been very helpful and has gone above and beyond what I would expect. I would not hesitate to order from Achtuning or Skyler.

Also, a huge thank you to AZ member "manguyen" for letting me borrow his Vag-Com last minute on Friday. He met up with me on his lunch break and was kind enough to let me keep the cable for an extra week so we can get the rears installed.

    Plans
    1.) KW V1 Coilovers
    2.) H&R Rear Sway
3.) APR Pulley (This will jump to front if it is released before I order KW and sway)
    4.) Ocarbon CF interior trim
5.) RS6 Front grill with black surround (or aluminum...?)
6.) Test pipes or HFCs (if some that actually work are released)
7.) Custom rear valance for quad-tip exhaust
    8.) Supercharger upgrade?

Brakes are looking really nice man! Your really tempting me there my friend =P..I had a quick question, how bigger are those brakes than the stock ones? And posts pics if you can of the rears when you get them installed please and thank you =)

I have a few things planned in the upcoming future also =P Instead of spending all the money on coils, I was looking at maybe the H&R Springs for a nice drop (I don't want anything too crazy). Getting the APR chip hopefully by the end of this month (can't be without a car cause I got phyiscal therapy this entire month) and the pulley once it comes out =). Already found a dyno place, so I'm hopefully gonna do 3 runs (stock, chip, and chip+pulley)..would love to see the actual numbers that's why. This is just for now, I have a lot more of stuff I would like to get done hopefully within the next couple of months =P.

I believe the stock fronts are 321mm and rears are 302mm. I am not positive, but I believe the fronts are 2-piston and rears are single.

Audi lists the 2011 3.0T as having solid rears. Despite this, it was discovered that my car has vented rears. Any chance you would want to check out your rears for me and see if they are vented or solid? I'm curious as to whether this was something Audi only found necessary in certain model years.

The Stoptech fronts are 355mm discs, 6 piston calipers coupled with a more aggressive pad compound. Initial bite is not as pronounced as stock but once warmed up, they have a very consistent and confident feel. It is much easier to modulate braking now. The new rears are the same size, just slotted, with new pads, and ss-lines to match.

I see what you're talking about. That's just a reflection from the groove in the paddle. There is no +/- on the added paddle.

So you're the one with this video - it's the first one on top....is that a cop following you at the end? Did you get pulled over or some nosey neighbor call the "po-po," b/c of your loud runs up and down the street? Funny! Very nice car!!!

Fortunately, I was not pulled over. I was actually on a business drive so I was surprised to see him there. I purposely made the video in that area as to not annoy anyone.

With my luck, of course a copper comes driving down the street as I'm WOT and filming...

Is it just me, or did the custom intake really bring out the "whine" in your s/c??

I'm new to the audi world... coming from a long history of modded Acuras, but I always admired the C6. Great looking ride!

I have a C7 on order... its taking forever...

Any after market intake (Stratmosphere, custom, etc.) lets the "whine" of the supercharger come through. The OEM airbox suppresses it. I LOVE the sound.

Audi did a great job silencing the supercharger with the OEM intake. There's actually a Helmholtz resonator in the original intake piping and a significant amount of sound absorbing foam in the airbox.

    Thank you

ECU is being sent out Monday for version 2.0 of the tune. Want to take advantage of the cool weather while it's still here.

Got some Pilot Super Sports mounted.

Best tire ever. Completely changed the car.

H&R Coilovers being ordered in the next week or so.

Also, still deciding whether I'm going to just do rear sway or both front and rear.

Just do the rear. I am so impressed with the ride now that I have the springs and rear sway. I really don't think the front is going to be that much of a value add. Cost of the sway plus installation (have to remove the front sub frame) is not worth the improvement in handling that will only be noticed on th track. Just my .02.

Agreed. Unless you plan on tracking your car on a regular basis, not worth it IMO.

    Ynnekdude,

Did you do a catback? If so, did you use resonators? I am considering something similar but with Borla cans. Mine too would be 2.5inch with x-pipe but I am thinking no resonators - curious if you deleted those too. If you did delete them, any noticeable drone in the cabin during daily driving? What was your out the door cost on the exhaust? <----- If you don't mind telling all of us.

    Sounds and looks great!!!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Yeah, I wasn't planning on doing front anyways but it still crossed my mind.

Yep, catback. I'm considering doing HFCs at some point but I still have to figure out whether that is even worth it. I believe ours are pretty easy to access unlike those on the S4 which require the engine being pulled.

System is resonated but I am planning on doing quad tips in the near future once I get the rear valance thing figured out. In order to do the quad tips, I was told the rear resonators would likely need to be pulled for fitment sake.

Honestly, it drones a bit with the resonators. Unsure of how bad it would be without them. At first it bothered me but as the system broke in, it's far less noticeable. Plus, it sounds damn good. Nice and deep at low RPMs and then a nice howl up high. When I let off the gas around 3k there is this addictive burble and pop. Couple that with the supercharger whine and I tend to find excuses to "run to the store" every now and then just so I can roll down the windows enjoy a nice drive.

I paid around $600-650 I believe. Trexturk, a member on here, did it for me. He does some great work at an unbeatable price IMO. He did my brakes as well.

Well my quote was much more than that, but to be honest I am ok with it. Hanksville Hot Rods knows what they are doing and in the end if I am comfortable paying what I am paying, then I will be happy.

I think a lot of people get confused and upset about drone. Drone is a natural part of a higher flowing exhaust. Don't want that drone, you dampen it. There is a line for each of us as to what is acceptable. I think I am going to start off with a resonator delete. One, it is less expensive and two, if I add them and it is too quiet... then I have to take them off and have door stops. If it is too loud for me or drones too much, I will then look at resonator options to be added in.

Your car sounds great though. At this point Borla cans are my choice - just to be a bit different!

a little bit of drone comes with the territory. i'm not going with a resonator either. evil o, what did you get quoted? i haven't got a quote yet, but i expect a full custom job to be near $1500. i'm also going to see if my guys will fabricate an intake.

ynnekdude, please keep me (us) posted if you find a rear diffuser that will accommodate a quad exhaust. i too have been searching. i really like the ABT kit, but i can't find a US distributor.

That's my dilemma. I want to get a custom exhaust (my shop recommended Hank's Hot Rod shop as well for exhaust work -- they seem to be the go to shop in the Denver area for custom exhaust work). I want the best of both worlds. I want performance gains, but I'm not willing to sacrifice too much in terms of sound/loudness. I know, kind of a tall order. I'm going to give Hank's a call and see what they say.

My quote is between 1500-2000 depending on choice of cans and stainless steel selection. If resonators are added, that could also affect the bottom line.

Again, with the time spent in the shop with me, the patience given to my questions, an the flat out incredible wok I was shown, this cost is well within reason. Just saving my pennies now to have it done right the first time.

If you do call them, please let Hank know I (Jeremy) sent you. Tell him I am the one with the white A6. It may not make a difference but I want him to know the word is out about his shop and how we as a community can be good for him.

Thanks! And let us all know what you think!

BTW, they have a FB page too.

Also, I've been thinking of straight piping the car with magna flow mufflers (these)...any thoughts anyone?

Those look nice. Take a look at the 14 inch Borla cans as well. Those came recommended from Hanksville Hot Rods here in CO. A little bit better stainless steel. It may hold up even better for you in FL. About $40 more each. Not sure if Borla comes in the 14" cans and duals.. I am sure they do. I will be going with a single outlet on both sides.

    I like your taste though!

Haha... OK. I was reading posts above wondering if it was a reference to something else. Nothing like over looking the obvious.

    Ynnekdude,

When you going to spend 5 bucks and ditch the amber corners?

He already has in february. He was right behind me in buying the ones from ECS. If you look at the picture of the car in the garage next to the Q5, you will see that the corners can't Even be seen in the bumper,

Ah.. missed it. I have looked at so many threads and pics my head is spinning. I just looked at the last ones posted here and saw orange. Figured it wasn't like him with everything he has done.

I'm going to give Hank's a call and see what they say.
Well, I spoke with Hanks Hot Rod Shop. I have no doubt that they can make a great exhaust, I just don't think the performance gains of a cat back are worth it for me. Plus, I'm not thrilled about having a louder exhaust. I use the in-car Bluetooth phone all the time and having a louder exhaust will make it harder to have calls in the car. I actually got an exhaust ticket here in town a couple of years ago with my B5 S4 and that was with the AWE Twin 2 exhaust (not nearly as loud as the Twin 1), so I don't know - - I don't think that I'm going to upgrade the exhaust at this point.

My disclaimer to that statement is if/when there's a supercharger upgrade, then we'll see.

Did you tell them I sent ya? LOL.

I agree. Not too much in the performance gain, but I am looking at it with the idea of wanting a louder note. That louder note will come with 2.5 inch tubing. If I upgrade the ECU and pulley some day, that 2.5 inch tubing will be worth it.

With the sound insulation that Audis have, I am not convinced whatsoever that you will not be able to have BT conversations. Why? Because I had a full cat back, non res exhaust from JHM on my 2006 S4. I had no issues having a conversation either inside the cabin or over the phone - FWIW

How much of a performance gain did you feel with your custom exhaust?
