    2011 M3 + 2012 S4 PHOTOSHOOT

    MY2012 S4 arrived last week (almost 3 months exactly), and I thought I'd share some pics I took of a friend's M3 and my S4.

    2012 Ibis S4 DSG w/titanium package, prestige, magma red/black leather, carbon fiber trim, sports differential. I got the windows tinted as soon as i picked up the car. 20% on the back 3, 35% on the front 2 windows. Later installed HOEN xenonmatch fogs and license plate lights.
    Mods soon to come: hardwired V1, 10" kicker sub, APR carbonio stage 2 intake, APR exhaust, APR stage 2 tune + pully upgrade (waiting for swichable programing), and wheels but haven't decided which ones to get.

    I have to say..the M3 looks so much more badasser! Hope some good body kits come out for our b8 or else i may have to switch teams once my lease is up.

    Major mods? A stock B8 S4 will run even with a E90/2 M3 and with an APR tune it will without a doubt. It's also 20k cheaper. A decent M3 is around 68-72k and the S4 is between 50-54k.

    Once i get some of my APR mods done I'll race him and show you that the S4 is easily capable of beating up on that M3. APR Stage 2+ S4 > Stock M3

    First Congrates on the new 2012 S4 looks great. My 2011 got so many looks more than my current M3. The B&O is very nice. The inside lighting is so much better even the door handles light up inside the car. BMW WTF 74K for my M3 and nothing lights up inside. YOU NON OCD bastards.. The S4 is easy to drive compared to the M3. I like the DCT with all the adjustments in the M3. The APR tune is a must the supercharger at WOT hits a wall after 5k RPM.     Sorry not true. Sold my 2011 S4 and 3 months later purchased a new E90 ZCP M3. The M3 would beat the S4. The S4 farts when it shifts with the DSG and the engine note sucks. My S4 cost over 57k with the limited slip. IMO the S4 was nice but could not compare to the RS4 it replaced. It never felt special to me so moving back to an M made sense. M is the better car but it will cost you much more money and for many its not worth the extra $$$$. I went from 57k to 74k in 3 1/2 months. If you watch TOP GEAR they picked the base M3 over a loaded RS5 which will eat the S4. Now could you spend $$ and make the S4 faster sure and so could the M3 or the RS5 driver. I always compare stock to stock.

    Here is pretty much stock (MTM useless piggyback ) S4 vs M3. M3 will win once it gets up to speed (top end). M3 and S4 aren't in same category for comparison. It's comparison should be a 335.

    but for the sake of comparing acceleration...add an APR tune.. a much different story. The S4 will have an improved topend with 12.5-13.5 psi of boost @ 7000 rpms instead of the 8-9 stock, much better lower end torque and you should see very similar acceleration numbers.

    I don't know ... the M3 is pulling 13s quarter mile, while the S4's pulling 12s quarter mile.

    LOL. Do you realize that M3 is 12-second car right off the showroom floor? A stock B8 S4 doesn't have a chance in hell. And who cares about prices? If you want to talk prices, then a new Mustang GT will run with the M3 (and ahead of the S4) for less than $40K. But again, who cares about prices? That wasn't even part of the discussion.

    I was gonna say, our cars look so much more friendly than the M3 and the EVO. Kinda disappointing, but I still take ours over them any day.

    I don't know about not having a chance in hell. M3 quarter mile times I see are in the 12.5-12.7 second range. Chance in hell might not be the right description. Granted .2-.3 seconds is a lot.. but I have also seen 13 second quarter miles for both cars. Road and Track ran a 12.9 @108.6 on their stock B8 S4 and we have seen a stock S4 run a 12.698 (member MDMA2004 on audizine)

    I drove a 2011 E90 M3 ZCP 6 Speed this weekend. Spent some good time behind the wheel. I loved everything about the car. The steering and suspension were sick. The exhaust and engine noises were intoxicating. The road feel was really connected. However, I did not like the shifter/shifting and the interior was dated.

    Also, after having an APR tuned S4 6MT as a daily driver, I can tell you that we get spoiled by the large amount of torque and instant power of the supercharger/tune. The V8 did not feel as quick as my car (very linear power delivery, you see the speedometer climbing and hear the engine and exhaust roaring but there is no push you to the back of your seat feel that the S gives). This was confirmed by the driver of the M3 who subsequently drove my car afterwards and had a grin from ear to ear the entire time and said the same thing. There is a huge difference in torque between the two cars and on the highway rolls from any gear... it's quite apparent my S4 darts out very quickly and has a pretty big lead that can't be closed in time. The APR tune also builds max boost at 7000 rpms for me (~14psi) and keeps pulling even in the higher rpms.

    HP levels should be similar both cars (APR S4 should be a little higher ~360 whp on dynodynamics), with a much bigger difference in torque where the m3 has even less torque (295 lb ft) than a stock S4 (325tq claimed, I dynoed 323 tq to wheels on dynodynamics stock). A tuned S4 has well over 400 lb-ft of torque to the crank and that is felt all the time.

    Another highway run with a 2008 N54 Dinan Stage 2 335i coupe (~378hp/416 tq to crank), and 300 lbs lighter than the B8 S4 that same day.. yielded similar results with the S4 putting about 2-3 cars on the coupe by the top of 5th gear (closed road). And I have seen them run 12.6-12.7 in the quarter mile.

    Yea after an hour and 40min drive, giving it 25min to cool down still head soaked I still ran 13.089. So If I ditched the spare went from 3/4 tank to 1/4 tank and launch control wasnt acting funny I would of broke into 12s so umm.. "12 second car right off the show room floor" I think so. ALso if I didnt have the sport diff cut the 150-200lbs there and my car hits 12.900. 12 seconds is 12 seconds I love everything about the M3 amazing car I just cant afford or nor do I like the interrior of bmw's. I would rather buy a 911 or somthing save my money.

    M3 has the body style to kill for I am sad that they didnt give the S4 a wider meaner body frame but when you drop it, it fixes how it looks and the Miltek exhaust give it the V8 like sound we all kill for so... anything else anyone? Did you forget your on an Audi forum. How about you spend your money and we spend ours an we can track them both =).. I am sure the piggy back tune intake exhaust nets you 50hp while were sitting at about 120hp gains (even thought it costs a bit more still way less then what you spent on the car) and we make it very fun for you to admire the styling of the rear of the new B8 platforums. haha. OH and Rs5 yes but I dont like that car much so I would go M3 as well =).

    last i heard their rear diff was better than Quattro :)

    If you are that worried spend some real money and get a real race/track car - otherewise anyone with either car not dedicated to the track is actually a wannabe poser racer...
