    2.7 thermostat housing

I think I have to replace my thermostat housing again. I’m having coolant leaks from the same spot, towards the front of the engine around the oil pan. As soon as I pour coolant in the reservoir I can look under the car and see coolant dripping off the alternator. The first time I did the job I replaced it with another plastic piece and it’s biting me in the rear. I’m just checking to see if anyone knows that the aluminum one from ecstuning fits on the car for sure before I order the part and tear the car down only for a bolt to not line up correctly. I put my car info in to see if the part is compatible and it has an orange thumb sideways… The part is the “Thermostat replacement kit”

Here’s a link if anyone wants to check it out. Any insight or advice is greatly appreciated!

You just need the metal housing as the thermostat and gasket may come with the rest of the timing belt kit. ECS tuning has just the metal thermostat housing at https://www.ecstuning.com/b-uro-part...078121121j~ur/ and if you go to the bottom of that page, and click on 'Fits these cars', you will then see that the C5 A6 with the 2.7T is listed. On my 2001 A6 2.7T, when I did my first timing belt change, I replaced the plastic thermostat housing with a metal one, but I had a small leak develop after around 7000 miles, so when I redid the timing belt, I used a really small amount of sealant around the O-ring. I know that you shouldn't need any sealant, but mine eventually started leaking, so I added a little sealant during the last timing belt job. You might find a used thermostat housing, and they're usually around say $80 or so. - Jim

Yup, just get the metal housing...they are all the same. Post up a wanted ad and as Jim says, usually about $80 used. I didn't have any problems with the seal like Jim, but a little RTV can't hurt...only about 7 lbs of torque on the bolts, so it almost feels just like finger tight.
