I currently have an Apple MacBook. So I would need to buy a cheap Windows laptop. Are there any minimum specs that I would need? Can I just get away with buying a cheap 'netbook' ?

Wow - amazing idea actually. I had forgotten about Bootcamp. And it looks like I can get a basic Windows 7 copy for somewhere between $80-120. Not bad.

I read this entire thread, and lurked on Ross Tech's website for a while. As long as I follow this walkthrough guide, I should be fine, right?

That's what I did and I consider myself an idiot so ya you'll be fine. Just use logic and the new software is pretty idiot proof.

I have two red tops in my truck powering my 1000w 4ch for speakers, and 2000w mono for my 15" L7 Kicker (not huge amps but still take a bit), no cap, and no dimming. Make sure you go overkill for grounding to your batteries and your body/frame and you will bring the dimming down as well.

If VW can do it, no reason I would think our cars can't!

    Hi guys,
Am new to this forum and looking at buying a2005 a4 b7 1.8t, 79000 kms. I am hoping to get some guidance/insight on things I need to uncover before buying/ insight on potential problems. I just had a baby and looking at having this car for the next couple of years. So a bit worried on having to spend an arm and a leg at
this stage of my life.. My partner had an a4 b6 2.0 and encountered few issues with the cvt slipping occasionally on first gear and the A/c ducts blocking.. Are there similar issues with the b7... Appreciate your input cheers Adam

You have to recode it to "no trip/menu onboard computer" . Before i did my trip/menu wiper stalk mod, i had no bulb out warning. After coding, the first thing i see is that i have a burn tail light.

Anybody know if it's possible to code the mirrors so they fold everytime you turn off the car instead of selecting it with the knob?

Total vag-com noob and I'm a little confused as to how the recoding works - under the step by step remote window + one click locks, the coding # changes from 11820 to 11896, a difference of +76. Down below it says to +64 for remote window functions and -4 for 1-click unlock, shouldn't it then be +60 if you want both?

A buddy is lending me his cable this weekend but he had only used it for scans and is unfortunately not of much help. I plan on doing windows, locks, and seat belt chime (I understand the latter). Much thanks!

Is the current VCDS Lite new software? My cable doesnt seem to work anymore. Cheapo ebay one, but I usually used it for logging and I was going to use it to actuate my ABS system to get 100% of the air out of it.

If the software did change, does anyone have the old software? I have an 08 2.0t 6mt Q if it matters.

    Thanks

its simple in coding for windows add 64 to the last 2 numbers in the code they should be 20 or something close to that so it would equal to 84 after your add 64 so ###84 then for 1 click just minus for so instead of 84 it will be 80. for seat belts if you want to completely get rid of it change the second to last number to 1 from 6 so ###1# something of that nature. if you want to keep light and just want chime to be off while sitting in car not moving with seatbelt off then change second to last to 4 so ###4#

Cool thanks, that's how I understood it too. But I dont get why he increased by 76 in the picture example instead of 60? I take it I should just ignore that and add 60?

Does anyone know how to and what to log when running the engine?

I want to log bunch of data to see how my car is performing, to see any warning signs perhaps of potential future repairs or maintenance I need to do?

Does anybody knows what I mean? How to use vag com to test for potential future problems by checking the values and comparing them to what is normal.

I seem to have the opposite problem to most of you. My A4 B7 (2006) doesn't tell me when I have a headlight or tail light out. I've had the car a couple of years and remember doing some of the VAGCOM mods for Euro lights and door locks. I can't say if this is when the problem started as it was a while before I had a bulb outage. All I know is that I've had 4 bulbs out in the last 2 years and the car has never warned me once.

Anyone figure out out to disable the Bulb out error yet?

Great DIY. Thanks for all the help. Did have two questions regarding the headlights.
    1. Is there anyway to disable the little city light bulbs? mine are starting to melt the chrome inside the housing and are fogging up the lens from the inside.
    2. is there anyway to code the headlight to have the DRLs stay on when i turn on the low beams? I recently put LEDs as the DRL and think it would look badass if i could get both to come on.

    THanks

Have you unplugged your battery recently or changed the battery in your remote? Those two things have caused me issues.
