I was looking at different oils thinking maybe if I upped the weight I wouldn't have as much usage, within acceptable range. Granted--I am not a gear head. I did all work that was done on my BMW (haven't had Audi long enough yet), but I don't come from auto background/education. So give me some room for ignorance there!!! Was getting ready to pull the trigger on redline 5w-40 because it seemed to have good behaviors I was looking for when I ran across this oil on JHM. so I'm not trying it based on a head full of knowledge--I'm trying it based on "I gotta try something".

My plan is to try and get to the bottom of my oil consumption issues but I honestly have NO time to get my car in for compression/leakdown tests, etc.

More later. Results pending but don't expect miracles! It does seem to run a hair smoother though.

By the way, I run about 120-130 mph sustained daily up and down the interstate. 105 miles one way to work. (Here comes the criticism)

I got pulled over recently but he had no proof of speed. I'm fairly wired up to help protect against that although I do realize it's not bulletproof. My theory is if they get me with all I have then they deserve to get me and they did well.

Anyway, the officer was very irate because he asked me how fast I was going and I told him 75. He got up into my face calling me a liar "boy" (I'm 44) and repeatedly asking me how fast I was going. Each time I said 75, and each time he escalated his volume. To be honest I didn't enjoy it, but I love to drive fast.

He let me off with a warning.

I suspect the higher weight oil will quiet things down a bit and make it seem smoother. Let us know if the oil consumption changes. When you nest change the oil send a sample to Blackstone Labs for analysis. Then, when you put in put in a lower weight for winter (0W-40 or 5W-40) do another analysis to make a comparison and post to AZ. Good luck not getting pulled over. I'm addicted to speed too but don't want to race anymore so I got a couple of planes for my fix. No speed limits in the sky!

Thanks for the referral, I went to Blackstone Labs (not the one that promised to get me shredded) and ordered a test kit.

I like the flying idea but waited too long to get my license. Now I'm at the age where I shy away from the unknown more easily.

I know they vary from one formulation to the next. If JHM ads it okay I'm good to try it.

Castrol has warranty for repairs when using their oil, has anyone ever tried using it?
