So I had an unusual steering failure on my car (only ~35K miles, I purchased it used 2 years ago at ~25k miles) and took into a shop for inspection/replacement who then told me I had to take it to Audi as they were unauthorized to fix it. I took it to Audi who also did their full inspection and ended up replacing the steering rack (which was thank god covered by an extended warranty by Audi, saved me $3600).

The bright side of all this is that I got two complimentary inspections, both shops had lots of also recommended repairs/maintenance that I wanted to share here and evaluate what's really needed. Will also share the estimate costs just for everyone's reference on pricing.

Please let me know if you guys think any of these are a) Not Needed; b) Needed, can DIY; or c) Needed - have the shop do it. I'm comfortable w/ small jobs (i did my front brake pads, transmission mount, grille upgrade, etc.)

Front Brakes
-Audi recommends replacing front pads and rotors (from rust) for $1300
-Other Shop - Front brakes are at 11mm, no recommendation

Rear Brakes
Both Shops say they're at 3mm and should be replaced soon (i agree)
-Audi rec - replace pads and rotors (rust) for $1100
-Other shop - same, $900

Brake Fluid
-Both recommend for $250

Mirror Replacement (left side mirror was vandalized)
-Audi will replace for $1100
-I'm pretty sure I can source a matching mirror from a local salvage yard for ($150) and swap out the glass myself

Cleaning/Misc
-Audi: Water Drain Cleanout - cowl ($250), Windshield wipers ($75, lol)
-Other shop rec annual cleaning/service on drain systems, sunroof, clean radiator and cowl, lubricate latches, etc. for $250

Tires
-Audi rec replace R/F tire (it has a puncture that was patched but seems to be leaking again) and replace L/F tire so that tread wear is similar for $700 (Conti ExtremeContact DWS06 255/35 R19 96Y)
-Other shop shows front tires at 6/32 and rear at 7/32, no recommendation

Spark Plug
-Audi rec replacing every 6 years or 60k miles, $500
-Other shop no rec

Super Charger belt
-Audi rec replacing every 6 years 60k miles, $250
-Other shop no rec

Injector Cleaning
-Audi rec replacing every 3 years 30k miles, $250
-Other shop no rec

Coolant flush
I put in fresh coolant when I got the car at 25k miles as it was low
-Audi rec replacing every 3 years 30k miles, $250
-Other shop no rec

Engine Air Filter
-Audi rec replacing every 6 years 60k miles, $175
-Other shop no rec

Cabin Air Filter
-Audi rec replacing every 2 years 20k miles, $175
-Other shop no rec
