What will they try to sell me?

I think I'm about a week away from delivery. I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row so I can make the deal as painless as possible. I've got my financing all worked out and was pretty much planning to just say no to everything they try to offer at closing.

What are the things that they're pushing these days. The only one with which I'm familiar is AudiCare, and I'm not sure what constitutes a good deal for that. Any advice folks have for that or any of the other current offerings will be greatly appreciated.

Only things I had pushed before me were AudiCare and some sort of Wheel/Tire warranty. I skipped the warranty crap but did purchase AudiCare at 50% of the MSRP.

Audi Care is a set price from Audi. There is only like $30 profit in it for the dealer. If they took 50% off it was out of the vehicle profit.

If you are leasing a car and buy Audi Care you can add 1% to the residual through AFS.

We signed a sales agreement with the dealer to lock the 0.9% APR and it spells out
everything down to the tiniest detail, we got so close in the process that they waived
my deposit, i guess they sniffed a tuna :)

My car is on the same ship as yours, which is scheduled to arrive San Diego on Jun 6. I just got call from my SA saying that it should arrive at the dealership in the week of Jun 13. My plan is to only get AudiCare.

I did bought both, Audi care and the Fiddelity "warranty" till 100k. After the 2nd month I canceled the extended warranty since the dealer did not disclose fully that it was Fidelity and not Audi. I had bad experience with Fid before. All you need as said already is Audi care IMHO.

i picked up ding care. I have 1 ding to date and just 13k to go before its up. Skip everything but audicare and maybe wheel ins.

Thanks for the replies, all. Sounds like other than AudiCare, there doesn't seem to be a lot being pushed these days. Sorry but I just have that showroom scene from Fargo playing in my head, "well, we've never done this before. But seeing as it's special circumstances and all, he says I can knock a hundred dollars off that Trucoat." As I recall, there was some sort of paint sealant or somesuch being pushed when I bought my B5. I declined as politely as I could, but I still wanted to take a shower when I got home.

Well I remember being offered a built in radar and 2-3 other things. The guy was really cool about it, just a simple no and he didn't push it.

I got the basic maintenance package for $850ish or whatever it is. Worth it if you keep the car for more than a few years.

Also got the $850 paint protection package, coves dings/scratches for free, and they apply that sweet wax (forgot the brand name) so you never have to wax your car. I love it.

I think the only other options were wheel/tire damage package crap, and extended warranty stuff

Stay away from any sort of warranty, especially paint and fabric warranties.

AudiCare is good, especially if you have the dsg.

They pushed me 3M scotch guard interior & exterior protection, 3M clearbra, and extended warranty. (besides AudiCare)

I've had 4-5 friends get the paint/interior warranty with that xylene or whatever wax they put on the paint. Everyone loves it, and it's never supposed to come off unless you clay or buff/powerwash it really hard. So far it's really nice and bugs come off like nothing, but I'll see how long it really lasts. But hey, if they really do repair any ding/scratch for free with the warranty, it will easily pay for itself. $850 was worth it to me, but I will see in the long run!

Buying clay/lube, polish, wax, and all of the time it takes me reallllly sucks.

For me personally, I'd rather not put something on my paint that does a remedial job at preventing things from sticking to my paint.

PLUS, you are going to get swirls all over your car, and unless you really don't care, they are going to bother you when sitting next to a hyper clean "Insert Car Here."

Maybe it's because I've had bad experiences in the past with 'Super Wax that repels everything and is the ultimate in car care.'

End of the day, yes, I would rather spend the money on waxes, polishes, sprays, etc. to keep my car looking its absolute best. Is that for everyone? Definitely not. That's why Dawn and paper towels still exist.

I was offered Audi Care, Tint, 3M clear bra, and 3M paint and interior protection. The only things I said yes to were Audi Care for $850 and tint for $395. I probably could have gotten the tint done for cheaper but in the end they did a fantastic job with the tint and I'm happy.

The crap Audi sells is simply just a wax. But it's a very expensive wax that has a much higher melting point that will not wear off like a normal wax you have to apply 1-2x per year to keep a good sealant. I've been claying, polishing, then waxing my past couple cars every 3-6 months, and I'm sick of the labor. It looks like Audi's product has held up on my friends' cars, but I can easily tell when a car needs to be waxed or not from doing it so much, so I guess I will get a good personal opinion from experience after a while with this stuff :P

Actually Dawn is a fine car wash if/when you want to remove old wax.

But that's getting off-topic. :)

It's slightly abrasive, and causes swirl marks. But if you're going to buff it's alright. Stick with clay :P
