Source for matching Carbon Fiber weave

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I’m curious if anyone knows where one might find carbon fiber fabric that matches the pattern and color of the OEM carbon fiber interior trim for the B5. My current S4 came with the carbon fiber trim kit already installed on the doors and dash etc but the shifter surround, ashtray and hazard switch panel are all finished in piano black and not carbon fiber. I’m sure sourcing these parts is a nightmare and probably super pricey. I did my own carbon fiber wrapping of all of the interior trim on my original S4 with pretty good results so I don’t care to put the time and energy into doing it again but I would like for the carbon fiber weave to match the OEM pieces. I figure I will also wrap some other pieces like the door switches while I’m at it.
The OEM has that subtle blue hue to it so I was just wondering if anyone might know what company manufactured the fabric, or if someone has found a substitute that is close enough to match?

    Thanks in advance!

Multiple companies out there that do carbon pieces for the B5, and have stuff with a blue weave. Or used sets are fair easy to get hold of from the RS4 (S4 stateside never had carbon) I doubt anyone will have anyway to know who the original supplier was unfortunately

Yeah, and they have come down quite a bit since I did it myself about 12 years ago. I'd rather keep the OEM RS4 ones but all of the carbon fiber I'm finding with blue weave in it looks super blue... and the carbon fiber Audi used has just a little hint of blue.

You have likely already looked but-

    eBay.de

    eBay.uk

Occasionally you can find oem euro blue weave s4 trim sold by the single piece. I had a set in my old s4 and it is perfect, I understand your search all too well. You could always buy a full set (there are a few on US Ebay) and sell the belt line portions and likely make back the majority of your money. Good luck.

Haha, actually I haven't looked on the European bays yet, I used to peruse those sites constantly when I wanted to do a wide body conversion but thats a really good idea. Maybe I'll luck out! Thanks for the tip!

I have the OEM RS trim in my S4 and was researching where to get a matching shifter surround made. Matt at oCarbon was certain he could match the OEM RS.

I never pulled the trigger though, as I’ll probably be selling the carbon when I come across a clean sport trim.

That’s awesome, thanks for the lead. I may contact them and see what they would charge, unless you happen to remember?
I guess the OEM RS trim didn’t come with the shifter surround in carbon fiber? And if that’s the case it’s just sort of strange that they wouldn’t do all of the trim pieces.
If it were as simple as finding something that matches close enough I wouldn’t bat an eye about just doing it myself. Maybe even source a used surround and keep or sell the nice piano black one. But I fear that in trying to get a close enough match I will end up ordering and comparing weaves from multiple vendors and with the time and return shipping etc it becomes a bit of a headache.

    Update:
I contacted ocarbon and Matt got back to me. He said that Audi stopped using that fabric after the B5 and it is no longer available so he is unable to match it. I will try to keep a lookout on the European eBay but I don’t have high hopes and don’t want to spend and arm and a leg. I may just try regular black carbon fiber and see how it looks.

So a little update on this, I've been looking around trying to find just a simple black substitute but I can't even seem to find something that matches the pattern of the weave... even without the blue accent.

I DID come across this stuff though... it's from China and I haven't been able to find anything similar in the states so I may give it a shot... pretty pricey but if it matches its totally worth it!

FYI the blue weave is from Euro-spec S4 not RS4. RS4 carbon has a silver weave.

You might want to reach out to these people to see if they can help source what you're looking for. They do some pretty crazy stuff for some pretty crazy industries, and if they can't find what you're looking for with regards to carbon, I'm not sure who can.

Thanks for all of the leads guys! Some really good sources that I’ll have to check out. At this point I’m wondering if I’m able to find something close whether I will have to purchase a whole lot of it which will defeat the purpose.

I’ve been in contact with Matt and he said he won’t do individual pieces anymore due to people complaining about them not matching. I really want the door control trims overlaid but the surround of my aftermarket stereo is a 100% must have. So if he is willing to wrap these pieces in the same material as their kits I may actually sell the OEM set and get it all from him.
