The only aspects reiavent to this is that I am aware of, is the bolt down CPs, are a different design and the expansion and contraction is accomdated at the spark plug end. Besides the design differences, the materials used in the CP construction is different also.

I just converted my AEB style coil packs to the push down type, so I'm probably not going to be in the market for the FSI ones for a little bit yet. However I'd like to know if there's enough of a gain to make it worth my while to do the switch when the time comes to replace my pushdowns.
I don't have any instrumented test evidence, but the fact is that the 06H CPs, with the plugs gapped at 0.044", (factory gap on the NGK BKR6EIX-11), the engine idles A LOT better/smoother that with the 1.8T PN coilpacks. Being a Tip trans, before, the idle quality with D/S Tip mode engaged while stopped, was always comparatively rough, with the 06H CP, the warmed up idle is smoother to the point that it is almost not noticeable if in gear or not. Further, the throttle response is improved, and the midrange torque is higher, (according to me NIST traceable calibrated butt dyno). One aspect is clear evidence that the ignition quality is improved with a more complete burn of the air/fuel mixture, is that the CEL I had with the 034 HFC, cleared on it's own after installing the the 06H CPs, and has not returned. So, with the several objective improvements, this is consistent with the higher energy spark from the 06H CPs and the wider spark plug gap used, providing better ignition performance. Finally, besides the improved engine running quality with the stock ECU, running on APR stage 1, the engine pulls much more cleanly and does not exhibit the unsteady ignition quality at full load that occurred with the 1.8T coil pack PNs used before.

I haven't had a chance to do any spirited driving yet, but my overall sense is the car feels smoother overall (which is what everyone else has been saying...so yay!).
The coilpacks will sit flush down on the adapters, without a significant gap between the CP and the adapter. One half of the CP body flange, is a little different height profile from the other half of the flange, so there will be a very small gap between one half of the flange and the adapter when the other half of the flange is down to the adapter fully. When inserting the coil pack with the adapter already installed into the spark plug well, a final FIRM push down will cause the metal shield at the end of the CP body to expand and slide over the spark plug shell. You will feel and hear the metal shield of the coil pack expanding and sliding onto the spark plug metal shell. Use some dielectric silicone grease on the metal shield to help the shield slide onto the spark plug shell all the way.

INA v1.3 spacers, Anodized black $90

It will be a weekend project since I plan on removing the old ICM/Coilpack, Injector, and secondary O2 wiring. Does this look like it should work correctly? It looks like everyone is leaning towards 07Kxxx715F coilpacks as these do not have the plastic insulators that has been shown to cracking.

So I'm confident in my coil pack selection will work. But can I get some feedback on this coil pack wiring replacement harness. http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-...arness/ES7679/ If I wire this in to the ECU direct (I've read through the ICM delete DIY), will this work with the new 07K coils?

I just did exactly what you're looking to do. :-) Here's a link to my basic build thread with pics. If you have questions, let me know! (and your answer is yes, it will work fine with those coils and harness)

Hey, thanks alot. That thread is great. I should be ordering things shortly as I'm getting head on bills since I'm traveling a lot more for work now. I'll post back once I get to the install and results.

Yes but just use the INA/034 one. Why go back to a problematic design?

The 034 harness would require more work and is more then 3x the price. Can you build a harness to replace the entire run back to the ECU connector? I don't want the intermediate connector. I'm going to pull the entire engine harness when I do the coil conversion/ICM delete. So re-pinning the connector would be the easiest when its laid out verse sewing into the existing leads.

    Just some follow-up hard data:

I have seen a 15% improvement in fuel economy using the 06H coils and NGK coppers gapped @ .040" (I need bigger feeler gauges!). This is based on 1k miles of similar style driving, fuel type and environment. YMMV...

    Recieved my MKIV replacement harness and B8 A4 coils (07K 905 715 F)

I have the INA coil pack spacers at work to get anodized. Bought them off a guy that ended up not using them. But they were rare aluminum, so I'll get them coated hard black before they will go on. Ordering EV16 injectors connectors, mil-spec wiring and mesh loom to redo the coil and injector harnesses. Will be pulling the entire engine harness to do this to eliminate all the unnecessary wires. Its only been in the car since the last rewire/retape for 9k miles.

We have build entire replacement harnesses from ECU connector back but its a $600 part and only used for those on standalone (as we delete the N75 and SAI pump etc).

You could add in a two wire tail for either N75 or add-on EBC like E-boost or Profec B-Spec valve.

Please put me down for a set of four INA v1.3 spacers, any color.

Urtorsen, I'll be doing the same upgrade as you (AEB ICM delete).

The Coil Pack Harness is for transverse motors. So it will need to be modified and spliced into the engine harness in an AEB. There is a lot of write up on how to delete the ICM and use this wiring harness in a longitudinal motor. Probably the most complete is the Audigeeks.com one.

Thats correct or you can get the harness from us for $185 USD and it is not the prone to failure OEM unit.
We can supply Coils @ $20 each as well.

Will work on longitudinal motors. Technically you cant even change the coil harness on an Audi without cutting all the way back to the ECU connector. Roughly an 8 hour job ....
We usually just cut right behind the VVT tensioner / CTS and splice the replacement harness into there.

Coil packs and adapters have been great so far as 20PSI but ever since I turned up boost to 25PSI, I'm starting to misfire. Anyone else misfiring? I'm using the 06H coilpacks with Denso IK24 plugs.

I pulled my 06H 905 115 coil packs to inspect the other day, and the plastic housing was starting to crack on a couple of them just as it did to many others. I replaced them with the Red 06E 905 115 earlier ones, which seem to fit a lot better. Oh well. I could start an Audi coil pack collection at this point.

the car does feel more responsive and idles better with this mod by the way, so I have no regrets in doing it. haven't seen much of a difference in gas mileage yet though like some other folks have reported.
