    pros/cons of different tranny mounts

Well after beating the piss out of my car for 4 days the one and only thing that I can think of that needs upgrading is the transmission mounts. (or Atleast I think/hope that's what's wearing out)

When I am in gear and I let off the throttle (not pushing in clutch, or taking it out of gear or anything) I can feel some slop in the drivetrain. It's most noticeable in lower gears, but happens all the time...

So I was looking into 034 and stern as possibilities, but want to know what people with upgraded turbos are running/enjoying. I have had good luck with 034 street density engine mounts, but am looking at other brands to consider. Are there any other good brands out there that I overlooked?

You can always go with a 034 density driver side and Stern Passenger side mount. The Stern driver side B5 1.8t manual transmission mount is pretty stiff and does cause vibration.

Would having two different siffnesses wear/ settle differently?

One is just stiff enough it won't, supposedly, transfer the vibration to the cabin.
The other is mainly designed for big hp and/or track car. The vibration is very noticeable in the cabin.

There are people that run the stock driverside and upgrading the passenger side with a Stern mount or 034. The transmission twists, so each mount is doing something different while the car is being driven.

So a good combo for a daily car is a street density on both sides or street density on DS with Stern Pro on PS.

I picked up 034 Street Desnity units all around (including snub/bracket). I got them at a deal though, minus snub and one of the tranny mounts. If I didn't get them at a deal, I would have gone Stern soft for my motor mounts, Stern progressive unit on the pasenger's side tranny, and 034 Street Density on the driver's side tranny. That is what I really wanted, but did not want to pass up on this deal.

Would a knock/big clunk when letting off in second gear be drivetrain slop?

Is the clunk just behind the driver seat? If so then that is the diff hitting the frame, upgrading the rear diff mount or putting a Stern Power Ring helps get rid of that.

Yea I have seen this same problem in many b5's especially ko4'd s4's, I would do the stern power ring and diff mount bushings, make a huge difference and they are cheap and easy

    stern mounts and bushings

No I'm pretty sure it's coming from the front not the rear.

bumping up my thread, I am pretty set on ordering the 034 street density drivers side tranny mount and stern progressive passenger side mount, and the stern power ring

question though - in the link ill post below, what one of those is the stern passengar mount??

    http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...light=aptuning

also - are these decent prices? i have always liked ordering at the source to avoid the middle man for hassle reasons with returns etc, so should i just go right to stern /034 or should i order from ap tuning? or where would you suggest over these?

any group buys or sales going on for H2o or anything?

It would be the 6th mount down from the top, the picture is of the older version. The 5th mount down is the Stern B5 A4 1.8t manual driver side transmission mount.

If you want to buy from the source for Stern mounts then go to Purems. There are places you can order both the Stern and 034 mounts at the same time, just have to look for them.

I think i found the right guy for the order.

Anyways, how is the install on these? my buddy has a hoist i can use, but im assuming it might be better to do it on the ground so we have something to jack against to hold the tranny up.

Transmission mounts are easy. Just slightly lift the transmission with a floor jack after you have unbolted the mounts, swap, lower the transmission, let the engine idle and tighten the mount bolts.
