Replacing fuel tank cap every 5 yrs

With the latest CEL (check engine light) got an EVAP large leak indicated and wound up changing the fuel tank cap.
Do this about every 5 yrs. Is this normal?

If you haven't left blood or tears on it, you're not trying hard enough...

Never changed a tank cap while I had my S4, have on other cars. Wear may be weather-related.

Regardless, every 5 years means twice, no biggie.

more likely to have to replace the evap pump every five years than the gas cap.

ive never replaced mine, but so far you have bought just two...? so whats the big deal? if you have gone through over 4 then there could be an issue, 5 years is a long time for a cap the last thats made out of rubber and plastic, easiest materials that can break down

I agree, 2 fuel caps in 10 yrs is no big deal; however, would not expect the fuel cap to be the source of an EVAP large leak, small maybe.
Was asking the question from a diagnostic perspective. The first CEL was diagnosed & repaired by the dealer which prompted me to get the VAG-COM interface.
First checked the plumbing in the engine, pump in left rear wheel well and charcoal canister below the spare tire to no avail.
Guess next time will start with the fuel cap.

Could be something wrong internally in the charcoal canister. But
if the cap fixed the problem, once every 5 years isn't so
bad. Forge makes a polished cap I'm sure that would meet/exceed oem standards

    Thanks for the info.
Have been waiting for the CEL to reappear, but so far the fuel cap has satisfied the light.
    However, am still skeptical.
