In a sense. I didn't stage the car, my shifts were lazy and I was trying to hold my cell phone on the IC while driving. This would simulate if you pulled onto a road or something not trying to go fast, then realized you want/need to go fast and simply pressed pedal to metal from 1-2. You can see at the beginning of the clip I'm actually rolling forward. What you can't see is that the tach is sitting at around 1200 rpms. When I mount up my go pro, I will do staged pulls from first through 3rd and 4th gear as if I am trying to go fast.

You will be very happy with the new setup. That video isn't what she is really capable of.

I have pulled a few CEL's with an overboost and misfire code. Same codes each time. Misfire in cylinders 1, 2, 3, and 4 with an overboost protection. Must be software related for overboost but misfire could be a few different items. I am going to switch plugs for my first try at solving the misfire. After that,...well...we shall see.

Will ahve to get in touch with APR concerning overboost codes as that should not be happening with the correct software (I am running K04 map).

K1, I think its time to change your signature :-)
I need your help with the K04 install. I just picked up a kit and will be doing the install myself. Need all the tips you can offer.

    Thanks!

Hey guys. Long time no talk. I have been busy with work lately and ran into a few issues with the car that I have since remedied.

Tofu, I was not able to get the custom tune. The tuner couldn't get rid of the overboost coding. He could edit the boost tables easily as well as some of the fuel and timing tables, but just couldn't shake the overboost protection. It seems at the time, only APR knows how to get rid of that issue and I bet they are not going to share that anytime soon.

Anyways, I have had a few engine codes since the install. About a week after install I started getting overboost and misfire codes for all 4 cylinders. Narrowed it down to a vacuum line. The line from the wastegate to the boost solenoid on the turbo literally snapped off at the nipple. It is a super flimsy piece of plastic, but I am unsure how it snapped in the engine bay. Either way, I fixed the vacuum line and problem solved. Lucky for me, the solenoid is the same on the K04 as it is one the K03, so I simply canned my solenoid from the K03. No CELs at all. I also went ahead and dropped in some new plugs. Car is running like a champ.

I still want to get some videos and cool photos but we have been swamped and I want to get it done right. I also still want to see some dyno pulls. Work sucks.

ah, that's too bad on the custom tune. at least your car is running great without any issues now

my car has been good as well, luckily no issues. i've managed to get 31+ mpg consistently on several tanks of gas now. i'm very impressed

Thanks. I also see consistent 30+ MPG average. It was a little less with the vacuum leak but now I am back up to speed and fuel efficiency. Also, I have been calling my tuner at least twice a day to try and schedule a couple dyno runs so I can finally post my final results of what is going on in there.

I also sent NGK an e-mail about options for plugs. I haven't heard anything back yet. I was wanting to go with the Iridium IX -1 heat range. I can't find a part number on their site that will work with our B8s. After doing some searching on the forum, it seems most people play it safe by going with OEM. Running the K04 and that amount of boost, I would rather look into something a bit above OEM. I want to swap plugs in between dyno runs to see if there is any gains that could be attained by switching out plugs. I will let you know what I find.

On a side note, I talked with APR. It seems the turbo flutter is normal. If I was to add back in the stock air box and possibly the air tank in the turbo plumbing, it would muffle it or possibly drop it all together. I am going to drop the carbonio but not the intercooler piping so it will be something I have to live with.

Also, not sure if anyone else noticed it but I have a high pitch winding noise starting at about 15 psi coming from the intake. it reminds me of a supercharger spooling. This is also caused by the intake. Not very bothersome, but it is noticeable in cab even with the windows up (no music playing though).

I don't know if they have an Audi option for plugs, but I used BRISK plugs back when I had my MINI and noticed a big improvement all around over the stock plugs. You might want to give them a call and check in with them. If my memory serves me correctly, they're popular with the Lambo crowd...

I can't really comment on whining/whistling noises because i have the oem airbox. But, at WOT and full boost, the turbo spool is pretty loud from the inside.

Definitely try the stock airbox and see if it solves your problems. I wouldn't suggest going back to stock intercooler plumbing, though.

The noise isn't an issue. to me and I know that it is the cause of the intake. I love the sound of the K04 spool. It is very pronounced and sounds great.

Ok, so I FINALLY got scheduled for my dyno runs. This thursday at 1730 EST I will be on the dyno and will post later that night what sort of numbers I am putting down. This has been a long time coming but it is going to happen. So just a recap of the mods:

    APR K04
    Eurocode FMIC
APR quad turbo back exhaust with HFC
    Carbonio Intake

I will be measuring both the 93 and 100 octane maps for 6 runs total. The 93 octane map will be run using 100 octane but set to the 93 mode. This will give me 3 runs in each mode, both using 100 octane. Stay tuned for the numbers.

254.3 AWHP 262 torque. Measured on a dyno dynamics AWD dyno. Temp was 88.7 F. I was hoping the temp wouldn't be so high, but i was also hoping to run 260 GT fuel as well. Wish in one hand, shit in the other. Ill scan and post the graph tomorrow.

AWHP looks about right with a K04 on 93 (considering temps) but honestly the TRQ looks low compared to (even) Stg2's that have Dyno results. Does the K04 trade off that much TRQ for HP? Looking forward to seeing the graphs...it may show the answers.

I was expecting a bit more as well. But the fact of the matter is the fun factor. The car feels tons faster than stock. I am not sure what the car puts down stock for torque but there is a huge difference.

Edit: Also consider the fact that it is being measured on a Dyno Dynamics, the heartbreaker of dynamometers.

Sorry for the delay. Looks like I was a bit off with my peak torque. I was sitting at about 280 on the dot. We had connected a boost gauge to the car and notice that the boost curve was anything but linear. Since the files from APR are encrypted, we are unable to adjust any aspect of the map on the vehicle.

How is the day to day driving with the K04 setup? Light to light around town much different? Any input would be appreciated.

Well, since I did not have a stage 1 or 2 tune from APR prior to taking the leap that I did, I cannot compare how the K04 would compare to a simple software upgrade. With that being said, the largest power gains are in first and second gear. From stock to the setup I have COMPLETELY transformed the car when in light to light driving. If I feel like it, I have tons more power and torque available almost instantly. If you look at the dyno chart above, you can see I am at full boost by 3150 RPMs.

Another aspect of the power upgrades would be fuel efficiency. In regards to fuel efficiency, I saw a substantial increase in highway efficiency but a minor decrease in city driving. I relate that to the fact that I tend to open the car up more than I used to.

I hope that helps to answer your question and if you have any more I would be more than happy to answer them!

BTW, to the people who have been following my thread, I appreciate everyone's input. I know my thread hasn't been the best with photos, however; when my wheels come in, I plan on doing a full photo spread of the car. There will also be a few more subtle goodies added when the rims go on as well. Until then, if anyone has any photo requests, or comments, feel free to hit me up and I will add the requests to the list when we do the shoot. Thanks again for reading!
