its a nice piece, but 200 beans just seems like too much to spend on this.

i know the ecs is out of stock now, but at 150 less, how much of a pain in the ass could it be to install even IF it does go back to the ecu? i also see that the ecs unit isnt as pretty as this one here.

-edit- maybe 200 ISNT a lot to spend on this, its just a large amount to spend period. thats what im saying

Dang you Ken! Kudus to you guys for showing some love to the AZ community.

    :)

I've had mine in place for a while now and its a quality piece of work...I recommend it highly. Although the one I got has this horrid looking teal-colored connector. Fixed that by wrapping it in cloth webbed adhesive tape. I like the look of the loom and its holding up really well.

Now I'm waiting for 034 to release a fuel injector harness kit! The harness on my car is deteriorating the same way as the coil pack harness. I'm told its in the works...so can any one from 034 comment?

@Charlie - What did you use to crimp the pins onto the leads? I ended up getting a Molex crimping tool but it didn't seem to work very well. It was half the cost of the one 034 was selling and looked to be the same. I dunno...maybe I just suck at crimping pins.

This is great news! Pretty much all of my critical sensors are beginning to go. I already got a new lead and connections for the MAP and MAP, and have noticed my coilpack and injector harness starting to show its age.

Just checked mine there too and its all split. :( This obviously attributes to blown coilpacks as well i take it as they cables may short out.

Any chance of a price shipped to Ireland?

Yes it should since the ATW uses the same plug. It is the ndbw cars that use a different plug.

I have a few crimpers that I had from all the electrical classes I took. Not sure the exact name of the one I used but it turned out really clean on the crimps.

Yesterday I replaced my oil level sensor connect with new wiring and also put a new maf sensor connector on with new wiring. Next is the injector harness.

I can check when I get home. Also needle noses can be used to make the crimps perfect. Just bend in one tab and then the other over it and squeeze it. I did that for the first two before I found my crimpers.

It is a nice OEM piece. from the info I got it is for the TT though which is a shorter harness and would need to be extended.

Yeah, I'll probably go with ECS, but I do like the idea of an easily removed connector. How hard would it be to add that connector to ECS's harness, anybody know?

you might have to add a connector like that for a few reasons:
    1) From what I heard the harness ECS has is for the TT and it is shorter (would need extensions)
    2) it would be easier to cut the wires already coming out of the ECU so you dont have to find exactly what wires they are (if you dont have a schematic) on the ECU harness.
    3) If it is shorter you will have to add wiring anyways so it makes #2 above the way to go.

It would not be hard at all You would need a connector with 12 pins like the 034 one and then buy the leads (leads are like 9 bucks for one lead with wire at the dealer) so you would need a total of 12 leads if the leads on the ECS will fit your new connector... if not you need a total of 24 leads and then would have to cut the ecs wires and put the new ones one...agian thats if they dont work for your connector. You would need 12 male and 12 female leads.

So in that case 034 would be the way to go.. just my opinion though.

This is the ECS one. also looks like they dont have the boot to go over each connector... it appears to have 8 leads and a connector. At the dealership they just cut the existing wire harness and add new wiring and connectors.

Two years ago I spliced in a 1J0971658L repair kit for $50 from the local vw dealer. Had to change the fuel injectors' wire harness also, got one off a vr6 (connectors different but fine + 2 spare connectors) from the scrap yard...been running great ever since.

    Hi,

did you guys ever end up posting a DIY or a wiring diagram for this 034 harness install. I have the harness, I am a bit confussed with the install instructions. I do better with diagrams/pictures. I see that the connector is labelled with 12 numbers, and the install instructions explain where they go on each coil connector. However, the 4 pins on each coil connector are not marked. I guess I am not reall sure which is pin 1 and which is pin 4 on the coil connector? I obviously don't do much electrical work, although this should be simple enough as long as I know how the coil connectors are numbered as well as which is coil 1 ( I would assume 1 is closest to the front of the car). Just want to make sure. But as I said, if it would be possible to get a diagram/picture, that would be great.

    Thanks

    Thanks

I dont have a diagram but I can explain a bit more.

They first 4 slots on the new 034 harness are the ones you have to pay attention to. These are your trigger wires for each cyl.

The trigger wires are the skinny wires. Start with 1-4 first. Go to your number 1 cyl coil connector and splice back all of the tubing so the wires are showing. Locate the skinny wire which is the trigger wire. Cyl trigger wire goes in slot 1, cyl 2 trigger goes in slot 2, cyl 3 trigger goes in slot 3 and cyl 4 in slot 4.

The rest are your power and ground wirer. Do one set at a time so you dont get confused. 1-4 wires, then 5-8 and then 9-12. The wire diagram will tell you what colors the wires are also.

So, I installed the harness a couple days ago. It was actually very easy. The only trouble I had was at first I didn't push the pins in far enough into the 12 slot connector. However, once I realized the top part of the connector comes off, it was much easier to push the pins in, and to see when the pins were seated properly.

Thanks for the help Audi Skate Snow. Your explanation about the trigger wires helped out.

What did you do with the valve cover ground wire that seems to run back to all coil packs....there is no mention of this in the instructions... does that ground splice into the brown ground wires ?
lil confused on the extra brown/white cover ground and what it does...

Thought this would be the appropriate place for my question...

Bought the 034 harness, labeled and stripped all wires. They seemed to have only included 10 connectors (or pins) when there are 12 wires. Does anyone know if this was intentional or if I should go ahead and pick 2 more up?

Thanks Audi Skate Snow awesome review and clean looking install hats off to ya!!

Ken I'm down for the GB lets get this going asap....I've been putting this off for a while now after I found out it was a tedious job to run wiring to the ECU but this kit seems to make it so easy.

Audi Skate Snow did you strip everything back (insulation and tape) to the point behind your valve cover where your showing the clip to expose all the wires? I'm sure once I dig in I will figure it out - I am just unsure on how far back to cut the wires off.

Did you notice an increase in misfires due to warmer temps? I too have been having random misfires on cylinder 3 which is driving me crazy on new cp's and plugs (see my misfire post) and I feel this is my next solution. Pricey but I am tired of driving around with that weary unsure feeling from misfires.....it's the worse!
